I Chased Money Like I Chased Unavailable Men

I Chased Money Like I Chased Unavailable Men—And It Kept Me Stuck in Scarcity For years, I thought my money struggles were about not earning enough. If I could just land that one big paycheck, hit that next level, or find the right strategy, everything would fall into place. But what I didn’t realize was that I wasn’t just chasing money—I was chasing the high of money the same way I once chased the high of love from unavailable men. I didn’t want stability. I wanted the rush. I wanted the dopamine hit of a financial influx the same way I once craved a breadcrumb of attention from someone emotionally unavailable. When it came, I felt relief, euphoria, and validation. And when it disappeared—because I never truly held it—I felt panic, shame, and desperation to chase the next high. It was a cycle I knew all too well. The Patterns Were the Same I can see it clearly now. I was recreating the same survival loop with money that I had with love—one where my nervous system felt safer in the chase than in the having. 💸 I over-gave, over-worked, and self-sacrificed—believing I had to earn money’s love.💸 I chased big, flashy opportunities—thinking the next thing would finally “fix” my financial instability.💸 I spent impulsively on quick-fix solutions and charlatan coaches—just like I once over-invested in emotionally unavailable men who promised more than they could give.💸 I ignored the steady, boring financial strategies—just like I once overlooked the steady, “boring” men who could actually provide security.💸 I obsessed over the high of making money—but couldn’t hold onto it—just like I once mistook emotional intensity for love. I wasn’t building financial security. I was recreating emotional chaos. Charlatan Coaches & Quick Fixes: The Money Equivalent of Love Bombing Just like I had once fallen for men who promised depth but only delivered intensity, I found myself throwing money at coaches, programs, and “money-making opportunities” that preyed on that same urgency. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars on coaching programs that led nowhere. I bought into promises of instant success, massive financial leaps, and ‘secret strategies’ that were supposed to change everything. Because I didn’t trust myself.Because I thought someone else had the answers.Because I was chasing the fantasy of ‘fixing’ my money problems overnight. Just like in relationships, I thought “boring” meant “wrong.” But in reality? The consistency I avoided was the exact thing that would have given me the financial security I craved. The Mechanics Behind It: Why We Get Stuck in the Chase Here’s what I now understand: If you grew up with inconsistency, your body registers intensity as safety. If love was unpredictable, you expect money to be the same.If love was something you had to chase, money becomes something you believe you have to fight for.If love only came in bursts, money feels like it should come in bursts too. And when you get a large sum of money, your nervous system panics. 🧠 The Survival Response:The body says, This isn’t safe. I don’t trust this will last. I need to get rid of this fast. And so you…💸 Spend impulsively.💳 Overpay debt just to feel relief.🛍 Invest in something that promises a ‘quick return’ instead of holding steady. Because having money sitting there—just being there—feels wrong. Until you heal this at the nervous system level, no amount of strategy, budgeting, or mindset work will fix it. The Transformation: Learning to Hold Instead of Chase So, how do we shift? 🚀 We stop chasing the high. We stop looking for the next thing that will fix everything.🚀 We learn to sit with the discomfort of stability. Holding money feels weird at first—your body has to adjust to it.🚀 We build a capacity to trust ourselves. We stop throwing money at people who claim to have the answers.🚀 We focus on small, steady growth over big, impulsive wins. Consistency is the key to real wealth. And the biggest shift? We teach our bodies that stability is safe. We learn to feel excitement in holding—not just in receiving. We create a money relationship that feels nourishing, stable, and deeply supportive. We stop repeating patterns from the past and step into something completely new. Next Step: Rewiring Your Nervous System for True Wealth Clearing the old patterns is just step one—now, we need to rewire your system for overflow. In next week’s workshop, Rewiring Your Money Mindset – Turning Financial Stress into a Wealth Magnet, I’ll be teaching:✨ How to identify and shift your core money programming✨ Somatic & subconscious techniques to rewire your ability to hold wealth✨ A nervous system expansion practice so abundance becomes a felt experience, not just an idea 💡 Unlike Week 1, which cleared old patterns, this workshop is about making abundance your new normal. 🔥 This is exclusive for paid subscribers inside The Evolved Therapist. Why Money Disappears the Second You Get It

For years, I thought my money stress was a numbers problem. If I could just earn more, things would finally feel stable. If I just budgeted better, I wouldn’t feel like I was drowning in financial anxiety. But no matter how much money I made, it never seemed to stay. One month I’d be flush with cash, feeling on top of the world. The next? Scrambling, wondering how I ended up back in the same financial stress cycle again. The Evolved Therapist is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. I’d get a big payment, feel the rush of relief… and then almost immediately, the money would be gone. Bills, impulse spending, over-giving, justifying little splurges—before I knew it, I was right back in panic mode waiting for the next influx of cash. Sound familiar? 😮‍💨 I used to think this was just me being bad with money. But then I learned the real reason this was happening: my nervous system was wired for financial survival. The Hidden Pattern Keeping You Stuck in Feast-or-Famine Mode If money comes in and disappears just as fast, it’s not because you’re irresponsible. It’s because your nervous system only feels safe in survival mode. This means your body is comfortable in one of two extremes: 1️⃣ Money flowing in fast & easy—so you spend it just as fast. (Because holding onto it feels uncomfortable, or like it will disappear anyway.) 2️⃣ Money completely gone—so you panic & hustle to get more. (Because struggle feels familiar, and your system is wired to function under pressure.) Your brain isn’t wired for wealth—it’s wired for survival. So if “enough” has never actually felt like enough, that’s not a money problem—it’s a nervous system problem. How Your Nervous System Rejects Stability This plays out in ways you might not even realize: 💸 You spend money as soon as you get it—because having it feels unsafe. 😬 You avoid checking your bank account—because it triggers stress, even if you have money. 📉 You tell yourself “I’ll save when I make more”—but somehow, that moment never comes. 🛑 You sabotage financial stability—because struggle, hustle, or chaos feel normal to your system. For years, I cycled through these patterns, never realizing my body was actively rejecting financial ease. Until I started working with my nervous system, I was stuck repeating the same stress cycle—no matter how much money I made. Ready to Break the Cycle? If you’ve ever felt like financial stability is just out of reach—this is exactly why I’m releasing next week’s workshop: Breaking the Feast-or-Famine Cycle: How to Stop Living Paycheck to Paycheck (Energetically & Practically). 💡 In this workshop, I’ll show you: ✅ Why your nervous system creates income instability (and how to stop it) ✅ The difference between hustle vs. aligned wealth flow ✅ A somatic practice to help you feel safe with consistent money 🔥 This exclusive workshop will be sent to all paid subscribers of The Evolved Therapist on Wednesday, March 11th. 🔥 The Evolved Therapist is a reader-supported publication. Breaking Free from the Saboteur

Trigger warning: These episodes may contain content that is triggering for some listeners; please review the description and or show notes in order to know if this episode is right for you at this time. Hey there! Welcome back to Let the Rest Burn with The Evolved Therapist. We're diving into a new shadow archetype this July - THE SABOTEUR. This sneaky little character likes to mess with our schedules and relationships, all in the name of protecting us from potential pain. It stems from childhood experiences and has a knack for ruining moments of joy and openness. The saboteur is all about avoiding pain in the here and now, but unfortunately, it often leads to self-sabotage. I'll be sharing some personal stories and stressing the importance of looking within and making room to confront this tricky archetype. We can genuinely navigate life by surrendering control and embracing our inner power. So let's embrace spaciousness and let the rest burn together! For more links and resources, click here.
