When asked, I share my experiences with trial and error. Because of the obstacles I have faced and overcome, it’s usually met with criticism of doctors like armchair quarterbacks. Exciting medical disasters get more clicks than what is being done to make patients safer.
I have been working with the best team of specialists for over ten years. The intricacies of my complicated rare diagnosis and treatment are difficult to understand - not because people are willfully ignorant, it’s because they have other obligations or professions and aren’t living as a long-term chronically ill patient. I must manage work, parenting and everyday life with treatments, complications and annual tests. Most of my professional conversations are with clinicians and their staff. You could say that I’m soaking in it.
