Just what defines Starrcade, and what defines Halloween Havoc? WCW may have gone out of business years ago, but it will never lose its place in wrestling history, and its position as the one true competitor to the WWF may never be replicated.     Episode 78: 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain (1998)

    Getting access to WCW content is a bit difficult at the moment, so in the meantime, we're headed back to the movies! During the buildup to Halloween Havoc 1996 - which we'll hopefully get to soon - Hulk Hogan was busy playing aging children's martial arts show star Dave Dragon in "3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain." It was even featured on Nitro at one point - albeit in a way I suspect the filmmakers would rather it had not. As for the actual film... When a paramilitary / ninja group takes over a theme park that coincidentally happens to be the site of youngest brother Tum Tum's birthday party (attended by precisely zero of his friends), the 3 Ninjas - Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum - fight back, accompanied by new friend Amanda, a special effects whiz (somehow, special effects prop building includes hacking, so I expect to see that on Adam Savage's "Tested" channel any day now).  Can the 3 Ninjas save the park guests? Can Dave Dragon, stage show star, become a real hero and stop getting knocked out easily every other scene? Has anyone writing the hacking scenes in this movie even seen a computer before? Plus: Copying Die Hard's homework, some extremely confusing villain plans, Jim Varney - Ernest himself - manages to play a scary villain for a few minutes before it starts going as expected, and a rich dude gets humiliated for nothing more than being a rich dude.     Episode 77: Halloween Havoc 1995

    Rev up those engines! No, we haven't decided to cover motor racing instead...but WCW decided to branch out into monster truck competition of all things at Halloween Havoc 1995! (I guess they got spooked by not having a big spinning wheel last show, so decided to have 8 of them.) What results is one of WCW's most infamous shows, which takes place at the heights of the Dungeon of Doom angle and dives hard into a strange mix of lunacy and melodrama. Monster trucks! Explosions! A rooftop plunge! Longtime foes teaming up! Relationship tension! Betrayals by the armful! Mystic rites! Eldritch signs! Plus: The Yet-ay! For all this and more...let's go to the ring!     Episode 76: Halloween Havoc 1994

    Happy Halloween! It's the first Halloween Havoc of the Hogan Era of WCW - Halloween Havoc 1994!  Thankfully, no big spinning wheel this time - even for WCW, three years in a row would've been a bit much. Instead, we've got Hogan vs. Flair for the WCW title - plus, the loser must retire (for real, definitely not something that'll be overturned before the next summer. Plus: Johnny B. Badd wins the Halloween Havoc costume contest by default, the Nasty Boys debut the Pumpkin Driver, Dustin Rhodes goes for a distance record in self shotput, Brother Bruti demonstrates the art of pretend camouflage, and the hit wrestling themesong of the 90s makes its incredible crowd-pleasing debut.     Episode 75: Halloween Havoc 1993

    We're back with more spooky goodness! WCW got a deal on a wheel so it's time to spin for real! No, I didn't accidentally reupload our previous episode - WCW really decided that spinning a big wheel should be the focus of not one, but two Halloween shows! This time, Vader and Cactus Jack face the wheel of fate. Plus - Tony outdoes the Phantom of the Schiavone outfit, WCW has another go at a Sid Vicious vs. Sting match - surely they can't screw up the ending again - Dustin Rhodes and Steve Austin unsurprisingly have a great match, and astonishingly, no unsuspecting faces get booed against a Freebird for once!     Episode 73: Halloween Havoc 1991

    We're back for another look at WCW's scariest series, Halloween Havoc! But are the scares from ghouls and ghosts...or match concepts and presentation ideas that should never have seen the light of day or a dark and stormy night? Sting and friends battle their way through the Chamber of Horrors - a match so haunted match props move on their own in ways that entirely demolish the concept! WCW proudly presents a whole bunch of mystery people in masks, only one of which is actually important, which also happens to be the one whose mask fits so badly you can see his quite familiar mustache! Plus - four exciting squash matches to blow through some airtime! A discussion of the uses of early 1990s computers in wrestling! Where is Bobby Eaton going with that pumpkin? Oh, and Ron Simmons has a truly star-making turn in one of WCW's best-produced matches ever. For all this and more...let's go to the ring!     Episode 72: Halloween Havoc 1990

    Join us in the haunted arena for our look at the second WCW Halloween show, Halloween Havoc 1990! This year, WCW even realized they were making a Halloween show, so that's a plus!   The Freebirds face another generic face tag team - can they get booed this time? Ric Flair joins Arn Anderson for tag team action!  Lex Luger faces Stan Hansen! Sting faces Sid Vicious for the world title! This show should be pretty good, unless, say, WCW cuts four full matches, forgets to write an ending for a match, has somebody else dress as Sting seven years early for that, and/or has a low budget stage magician for their latest villain. You know, purely hypothetically. For hopefully none of that, let's go to the ring!     Episode 71: Halloween Havoc 1989

    It's spooky season, so time to...wait, what do you mean it's December? Okay, we're a little behind - but still, it's time to take a look at WCW's most ghoulish and horrifying series...no, no, not Souled Out. It's Halloween Havoc! First up, Halloween Havoc 1989: Settling the Score, in which WCW puts on a largely normal wrestling pay-per-view and trusts in a fun intro video and some basic party store Halloween decorations to convince us it has a scary theme. The Steiners face a mysterious new team, the Road Warriors remind us of a favorite AWA promo, the Freebirds are apparently faces now (?), and somebody at WCW has been watching Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, but can't do math. For all this, plus the Great Muta's firefighting demonstration, let's go to the ring!
