Preserving family history is an ancient tradition. However, it has fallen out of the mainstream. Even in our technologically advanced world and low barriers to entry, most people do not take the time to have meaningful conversations with their family and document it for future generations. Let's Reminisce is a podcast that seeks to show people the power of this type of history, which can change how you see family, and yourself. Through narrative-driven stories and interviews with his family, friends, and guests, host Rick Brewer explains how recording family history can change your life. We’re supported by premium members and generous one-time donations. Let's Reminisce is a Brewhaha Audio Production. Learn more at letsreminiscepodcast.org or email hello@letsreminiscepodcast.org

    Episode 3: Creating family archives

Have you ever taken out all of your family memories, papers, photographs, home movies, keepsakes, and scattered them across a table hoping to organize it all? Some of the first questions you might have asked yourself are: Where do I even begin? How do I organize all of this stuff? What is the end result? How will I find what I need in the future?
On today's episode, Rick welcomes archivist and historian Margot Note to the podcast to help people create their own family archives and make sense of all their precious family information.

    Episode 2: Mamita

    Episode 2: Mamita

One summer evening in 2005, Mathew Alvarez was told he had to stay the night at his grandmother's house. Mat grew up around the block from his grandmother, also known as Mamita, but was nervous. It was a rare instance when it would be just the two of them. He didn't know it then, but it would be one of the last times he would be able to connect with his grandmother. In this non-narrated episode, Mat reflects on his relationship with Mamita and what he's learned about connecting with family and his culture.

    Episode 1: Jeff & Andrea

    Episode 1: Jeff & Andrea

For years, my sister and I wanted to learn the details of how my parents met. And when I eventually did, it became one of the few times in my life when I can point to a specific moment and say this, this was the moment when it all hit me. How little I knew about my parents and that they had lives before I was born. I, of course, knew this, but never truly thought about it with any nuance. And this is where I wanted to go with my parents, the nuance. To learn about all of the little mechanics and innocent moments that had to occur for them to meet. To the awkward, complicated world of dating and how they became life partners. So, how did the stars align and why had it always been a secret?

Storytelling done well

The first episode on Jeff and Andrea was lovely. I only wish that there were more episodes to listen to. Excited to see what comes next for Rick!
