Street Fighter Review + Video Game Adaptations: From Embarrassing to Excellent| Ep. 166

Welcome back to The Level Down Podcast! This episode, we're stepping into the world of Street Fighter to review the latest movie adaptation and discuss the history of video game movies. From legendary gaming franchises making the jump to the big screen to adaptations that leave fans wondering what went wrong, we're looking at what separates a great video game movie from a complete miss. First, we break down Street Fighter, including the story, characters, action, humor, and whether this adaptation delivers the experience fans have been waiting for. Does it capture what makes the games so iconic, or does it fall short of its potential? Then, I'm joined by Chondel to discuss video game adaptations as a whole. We'll look at the movies that missed the mark, the ones that surprised us, and the adaptations that proved video games can deliver great stories on the big screen. What makes a video game movie work? Is it staying faithful to the source material, getting the characters right, or simply making a great movie that stands on its own? HOOD WARFARE 2 — OUR THOUGHTS At the end of the show, we'll share our thoughts on Hood Warfare 2 and discuss what we think about the game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/5155360/Hood_Warfare_2/ POWER TO THE PLAYERS ACT We'll also talk about Rep. Ritchie Torres' proposed Power To The Players Act and what it could mean for gamers and digital game ownership. https://ritchietorres.house.gov/posts/rep-torres-announces-power-to-the-players-act-legislation-to-ensure-gamers-own-their-games Join the conversation and let us know what you think about this week's topics. Paramount + Warner Bros: What It Means for Gaming Ep. 164

What happens when Paramount and Warner Bros. come together under Skydance — and what could it mean for gaming? On this episode of The Level Down Podcast, we break down the potential impact of the Paramount–Warner Bros. merger on the gaming industry and look at what could be coming next. Warner Bros. already has major gaming franchises like Batman, Mortal Kombat, Hogwarts Legacy, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones, while Paramount has been building its own gaming strategy around properties like Star Trek, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob, Mission: Impossible, and more. Could these gaming operations eventually become one major publishing division? Could Skydance become a serious player in the gaming industry? We also get into what the merger could mean for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo, the possibility of movies and games being developed together from the beginning, and whether Skydance's financial situation could lead to more franchise-driven games and fewer risks. Then we shift to DC and the latest Flash discussion, including the questions surrounding the new DCU's future for the character. And we're also talking about Nicolas Cage's recent comments about Marvel, including his description of the MCU as a "well-funded and glorified WWE." We break down what Cage was actually criticizing and whether the same criticism could apply to modern AAA video games. Darkwing Returns to Disney+! PlayStation Tap-to-Pay & Xbox Gaming Ads Patent Ep. 163

Darkwing Duck is officially coming back to Disney+ — and the casting has people talking! Mark Hamill is taking on the role of Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck, Seth Rogen will voice Launchpad McQuack, and the new series introduces a character named Duckie. We break down the 35-year alternate-world storyline, the return of classic villains like Negaduck and Megavolt, and whether Disney can bring Darkwing Duck back without simply copying the original series. Then we talk about a new Sony patent that could potentially bring tap-to-pay technology to PlayStation controllers, allowing players to use phones, payment cards, gift cards and other devices to transfer information. And finally, Microsoft has patented a system that could potentially connect advertisements to gameplay time. The concept could allow players to watch an ad at a natural stopping point in a game and receive additional ad-free gameplay time. But remember: these are patents, not announcements of upcoming PlayStation or Xbox features. Would you watch a new Darkwing Duck series? Would you use tap-to-pay on a PlayStation controller? And would you watch an ad to earn more gameplay time? Let us know what you think! Marvel’s Wolverine Review: Honest & Unbiased & More Ep. 162

This week on The Level Down Podcast, we're talking about some of the biggest stories happening across gaming and entertainment — and we're clearing up one important piece of information from our previous discussion. First, we're taking an honest and unbiased look at Marvel's Wolverine. We're also correcting the record on the game's reported sales. There is a current third-party estimate of approximately 1.9 million copies sold in its first three days, but Sony has not officially announced that figure, so we won't present it as an established sales number. Then we're heading to Xbox at Tokyo Game Show 2026, including some major announcements: PHYSINT comes to Xbox — Kojima's PHYSINT has shifted from PlayStation to Xbox publishing, with Bill Skarsgård announced as the game's lead. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — Xbox showed off a new campaign trailer, with the game scheduled to release October 23, 2026. The game was also playable on the Tokyo Game Show floor. GTA VI ramp-up begins — Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the need to keep aggressively marketing GTA VI despite the game being one of the most anticipated releases in the world. Rockstar also announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, featuring 34 original tracks, with six singles released immediately and the full album arriving alongside the game on November 19. Resident Evil is having a HUGE opening — Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil reboot is tracking toward a roughly $53 million+ domestic opening, with a reported $26.3 million opening day, making it one of the biggest openings in the franchise. The Helldivers movie gets a new lead — Alan Ritchson is reportedly in talks to replace Jason Momoa in Sony's Helldivers movie, with Justin Lin directing. Crazy Taxi is becoming a live-action movie — Netflix and SEGA are bringing the classic arcade franchise to live action. And of course, we have plenty to discuss about what all of this means for the gaming industry, the future of major franchises, and what we're actually excited about. What do you think? • Is Marvel's Wolverine getting a fair shake? • What did you think of Xbox's Tokyo Game Show announcements? • Are you excited for GTA VI? • And seriously... why the hell is Crazy Taxi getting a movie? Sony DROPPED Kojima's PHYSINT — Xbox SAVED It?! | Marvel Wolverine Review Controversy Ep. 161

Sony walked away from Hideo Kojima's PHYSINT… and Xbox stepped in. Why did Sony drop one of Kojima's biggest upcoming projects? Did the cost and development time become too much, or did PlayStation just make a decision it could eventually regret? Devin and Chondel break down the shocking PHYSINT situation, Xbox's growing relationship with Kojima, and whether this could become one of Microsoft's biggest wins. Then we get into Marvel's Wolverine. The reviews are divided, and some critics are calling out the repetitive combat, boss fights, and linear design. Is Wolverine actually disappointing, or are expectations simply too high because it's an Insomniac game? And finally, Nintendo is offering up to 30% off select games in its Customer Appreciation Sale. Is Nintendo finally giving gamers a reason to spend? Did Sony make a huge mistake? Can Xbox turn PHYSINT into a blockbuster? And is Marvel's Wolverine worth your money? Join Devin and Chondel for another Level Down Podcast and let us know what YOU think.
