    Virtual Information Sessions & Open Houses at Laurel Ridge Community College

    Our conversation today with Guy Curtis, Director of Marketing for Laurel Ridge Community College included details for several upcoming virtual information sessions and open houses planned in the coming months. Joining us for the chat was Michelle Cribbs, Director of Outreach for the college.
    We initially talked about the name change for the school and the opportunity changing the name from Lord Fairfax Community College to Laurel Ridge Community College affords the institution to reach a new audience.
    Michelle explained her role as Director of Outreach and talked about the valuable partnerships they've established with local businesses, non-profits, and government agencies such as Virginia Career Works. She gave us the details for a few upcoming virtual information sessions and talked about how anyone can start/return to college virtually or in-person. She also busted a few myths about financial aid and learning ability.

    Career & Internship Fair

    Career & Internship Fair

    We were on the screen recording today with Sarah Pangle, Career Services Advisor at Lord Fairfax (becoming Laurel Ridge) Community College to talk about the college's upcoming Career & Internship Fair.
    The event will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at the Corron Community Development Center from 10am - 3pm. Sarah told us how attendees should prepare for attending the event (resume, wardrobe, small talk) and told us a bit about the types of employers who will be in attendance. While we were recording, another employer signed up bringing the total to 89 across over a dozen different industry sectors such as trades, manufacturing, healthcare, law enforcement, retail, etc.
    The event will also feature free resume review services and a session: The 3 Secrets to Landing Your First Dream Job That No One Has Told You!
    Registration is not required and the event is free to anyone in our community - being a student is not required.

    Mackenzie Hoover

    Our conversation today with Mackenzie Hoover, a dual-enrolled student at Lord Fairfax Community College & George Mason University gave us some insight into what it's like to be a nursing student.
    Mackenzie told us how the nursing profession became her passion, the things she enjoys most about caring for people, and talked about her classmates and clinicals. She explained what it's like being a nursing student during a pandemic and talked about how her mom has been an inspiration throughout her education journey.

    Our conversation today with Cynthia Schneider, CEO of Top of Virginia Regional Chamber gave us some insight into her continuing education journey at Lord Fairfax Community College.

    Kerry Kilpatrick

    Our conversation today with Kerry Kilpatrick, Lord Fairfax Community College (Fauquier campus) librarian, ran the gamut from her typical day, being involved in the classroom and genuinely enjoying helping students to talking about her potentially lifesaving surgery.
    Kerry explained that librarians aren't what we may think they are. At LFCC, they work with professors through workshops and seminars to help them understand the process after an assignment is given. She told us how they interact and help students in need of physical materials as well as online research.
    We also talked about her inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis a few years ago and why she's become an advocate & educator for more people to feel comfortable talking about it and seek preventative care.
