    Library 'Lights Episode 8: Mind Meets Evidence: Leading Change in Mental Health Research

    Welcome to the 8th episode of Library 'Lights! In this special Mental Health Awareness Month episode, we're joined by consultant psychotherapist and one of Somerset Foundation Trust's leading voices in mental health research Adrian Hayes, to explore his work with mental health around the trust.  Adrian shares an overview of his unique role, combining a background in psychotherapy and psychology with leading and supporting research across the Trust. We discuss what mental health research looks like in practice at SFT and how this work is helping to improve understanding, treatment, and outcomes in mental health care.  The conversation also highlights a new and exciting research project currently underway, alongside practical ways colleagues can engage with research in their own roles. We explore some of the common misconceptions around mental health research, breaking down barriers and showing how accessible and impactful it can be.     Seeing the Person - Behind Dementia and Delirium Care at SFT

    Welcome to the 7th episode of the NHS Somerset Knowledge & Library Service podcast! This month, we're joined by Emily Hitchens, Dementia & Delirium Training Coordinator at Somerset Foundation Trust, to explore how education and person‑centred approaches can make a real difference for people living with dementia and delirium. Emily shares an insight into her varied day‑to‑day role, from delivering ward‑based training and study days to developing innovative learning opportunities such as VR dementia and delirium experiences. We discuss the range of training and resources available to staff, and the common challenges teams face when supporting patients who may feel frightened, disoriented, or away from familiar routines. The conversation also highlights what person‑centred care looks like in practice, including the importance of knowing what matters to each individual, supporting dignity and independence, and creating environments that help people feel safe and like themselves.
