Mirza Muhammad Uzair Akbar is a well-known respected scholar and a prominent leader in the Muslim community of Queensland. He has been the appointed Imam for over two decades in the century-old Holland Park mosque located in the beautiful suburbs of Brisbane. He is the President of the Councils of Imam Queensland (CIQ) and sits on the board of many not-for-profits organisations, youth clubs, and Islamic Finance Organisations in Australia. His passion, zeal and commitment speaks volumes of his 23yr tenure in this place. Imam Uzair has been gifted with a unique way of connecting to the common audience through his Islamic lectures, tafseers, and sermons. His forte includes connecting with the youth and giving common life analogies that really strike the heart of listeners. He considers all his listeners as one big family. Imam was born in England and completed his Islamic Scholar course (Ulema) from various cities and institutions in Pakistan including Jamia Ashrafia Lahore, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, and Jamia Binoria Karachi. He did his Hufaaz course (memorisation of the Quran) from Raiwind Lahore. He is blessed to have been in the accompany of and personally taught by many world renowned and learned scholars. Imam Uzair Akbar is also very popular amongst the wider community in Australia. He is always present to give talks and appear in multi-faith forums, conduct open days and visits from schools. When he does get a chance from his busy schedule you will see the Imam swinging his cricket bat or doing some sort of sports. He is an avid sportsperson whether it’s cricket, golf, table tennis, swimming, or lawn tennis.
