This is not true crime
It’s a cool fictional show but Apple has it categorized wrong

Season two didn’t really have a very likable main character to get attached to, but I enjoyed the supporting characters and the acting.
S1 was amazing, S2 was insultingly disappointing.
I listened to Season 1 in its original state. It is possibly my favorite podcast I’d ever heard to date. There were episodes that left me breathless, made me emotional. I was very emotionally invested in the narrative and in Leah Haddock.
The second season, however, was a complete letdown. Not only was it not nearly as engaging as S1, but the plot was uninteresting and confusing on the first listen. Also, the overall payoff is just so insultingly bad and may not even make sense unless you read the prequel book, which was another thing that was lackluster at best. I would’ve been satisfied never knowing what happened after S1 if it meant that S2 never happened.
