“Spiritual bypassing” is a term coined by the late John Welwood to describe a phenomena he was observing in various Buddhist communities he was a part of. Welwood found that people were using religious practice to avoid dealing with “unresolved emotional issues, psychological wounds, and unfinished developmental tasks.” In this episode, we explore the implications of this concept on our collective journey, as well as its impact on emotional development as a whole. This podcast is much like sitting outside of a window where deep conversations about life, faith, God, and theology are overheard. Only you’re not eavesdropping, it’s intentional honest vulnerability among close friends. There is an evident camaraderie, where disagreement is done in a civil nature, not talking over each other, but leaving room for clarity and respect (something certainly lacking in our society). These are relevant conversations that respect the journey of faith while being respectful of the story behind the journey.
