One of the most frequent questions I get asked is, how did it get I started in podcasting and why?

It actually started out as an accident. I was part of a media training group, and one of the topics they taught us was podcasting.

In 2018 I joined the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. What I learned is behind every local business is a great story.
But they were wondering how to connect their local business with their community.

In June of 2018, I launched Local First Podcast.
The podcast just has taken off from there. My mission continues to share the stories of local businesses.

I especially enjoy meeting with local business owners and interviewing them and learning their stories. It literally took off from there.

The more interviews I produced with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, the more I uncovered.

I needed to share their stories.

Are You Asking Yourself The Right Questions In The Right Order?

I’m excited to introduce you to one of my great friends and mentor, Tony Jalan, and share our recent conversation about his three questions.

In this episode, Tony shares what the three questions are, life lessons he’s learned from them, and why the order of them is so important.

For the last 20 years, Tony has been a successful leader and business owner. He is a top sales leader for the past five years for a Fortune 500 company, and he uses three questions as a tool to be successful and achieve his goals.

    Topics in this episode:

    ●   The three questions:

    ○   What are the end results?

    ○   Why do you want it?

    ○   How are you going to get it?

    ●   10:16 - Once you figure out the end game you’re playing for, and why you’re doing it, then the how becomes easy.

    ●   13:50 - Why these three questions are so important

    ●   18:49 - Writing down your goals

    ●   23:35 - Don’t do it alone

    ●   25:16 - Why is the order of the questions so important?

    ●   28:56 - Applying these three questions to your business

    ●   36:10 - Tony asks me: What’s one story you’ve been telling yourself that’s been holding you back from getting to the next level?

Tony’s offer of 2 free resources for you: Text LFP to 414-409-0087 or go to LinkedIn search for Tony Jalan and send him a message with LFP

    ●   An 8-step process for business owners to maximize their profits

    ●   How I use these three questions to create a life that I am more excited about today than I have ever been.

To learn more about these resources, message Tony on LinkedIn.

15:43 When you start asking questions in the right order, you start unlocking the combination to your life. You can have all the right numbers to a combination, but if you put them in the wrong order, you’re not going to unlock it. By questioning our limitations, our greatest strengths are unveiled.

Are You a Monster or a Rock Star?

Are You a Monster or a Rock Star?

Sit back and enjoy this episode. I learned some much about energy drinks and what works for me.

I cut out the sugar and no longer have the afternoon crash.

    Meet Danielle

Danielle Robertson Rath a biochemist and author of “Are You a Monster or a Rock Star: A Guide to Energy Drinks - How They Work, Why They Work, and How to Use Them Safely”. In 2003, Monster energy drinks hit this US markets, and at that time she was studying for her undergraduate degree, while also maintaining two part-time jobs. She remembers that energy drinks were a helpful resource at the time to help her get through her days. But at the same time, they were very controversial within the scientific community. She devoted her work to understanding fatigue and the role of caffeine and energy drinks.

    Topics in this episode:

    ●     6:13 - Defining a “caffeinated beverage”

    ●     7:56 - What causes that afternoon crash

    ●     10:16 - How much caffeine you should have

    ●     12:21 - The combination of caffeine and alcohol

    ●     13:37 - The five levels of fatigue

    ●     16:43 - What time of day is best to drink caffeine

    ●     20:50 - A resource for caffeine information: caffeineinformer.com

    ●     27:07 - Danielle asks me: Have you ever hit fatigue level 5?

8:02 Caffeine doesn’t do anything quickly. It doesn’t hit you quickly and it doesn’t leave quickly. So you don’t really get an energy crash from the energy alone. Most of the time, it’s because you were exhausted before and the caffeine kind of revives you. And then you’re crashing because you’re going back to being how tired you were before. Or you’re crashing because there was a lot of sugar in the drink.

Milwaukee couple making a difference in the lives of children in the Milwaukee area

Milwaukee couple making a difference in the lives of children in the Milwaukee area

    Summary:

#DWYD Toy & Book Drive: Milwaukee couple making a difference in the lives of children in the Milwaukee area. A

husband and wife team that in their spare time (outside of full-time careers) create positive change.

This is the season of giving, and I am excited to bring you a conversation I had with Josh Scarver of DWYD Gives, Toy and Book Drive. The toy and book drive got its start eight years ago when he and his wife hosted a party and asked the attendees to bring toys. At that event, they collected 40 toys. Over the last eight years, DWYD Gives has since grown to over 20 different business locations and has collected over 20,000 items to help children in the city. Make sure to check out the list of locations so you can see which is the closest to you so you can do something to give back this holiday season.

    Topics in this episode:

    ●     4:59 - Biggest Challenges

    ●     7:14 - What life is like for some of their recipients

    ●     8:06 - What has him fired up about the future

    ●     10:14 - How people can get involved

    ●     12:05 - The 22 different donation locations

    ●     18:00 Josh asks me: Can you tell me why you started doing what you’re doing now?

1:06 The children that we’re trying to help are what I call forgotten children, unfortunately. They’re children who have been victims of abuse and neglect in our city of Milwaukee. It’s a problem that most people don’t talk about. And in the eight years that me and my wife have been doing the DWYD Gives Toy and Book Drive, we’ve collected over 20,000 items to help these children in the city.

#DWYD Toy & Book Drive: Milwaukee couple making a difference in the lives of children in the Milwaukee area. A

husband and wife team that in their spare time (outside of full-time careers) create positive change.

Over 4,000 children come through the doors of the Milwaukee Child Advocacy Center (MCAC) annually and they rely

heavily on the charity and kindness of others. The MCAC is a hospital-based child advocacy program through Children's

Wisconsin bringing a specially trained team of professionals to aid children. The donated items help provide security and

reassurance to victims. Each child and teen that visits the center is offered a toy and a book to make a stressful day a bit

more comfortable in an unfortunate situation.

#DoWhatYouDesire lifestyle brand headed by Joshua Scarver spreads a message of following your dreams, inspiring

others and giving back. Every year he and his wife, Bekah Lustig join forces, for their annual #DWYD Toy & Book Drive

to prove that anyone can take an idea and create an effort to help their community in a positive way. “I have realized in

the 8 years since this has begun, is that it feels good to help and it feels even better to inspire others to take action”.

Joshua’s true passion in life is giving and inspiring others to join in helping those who are less fortunate. The drive started

as a small event collecting 40 toys and books. As of last year, the drive has grown to over 5,000 donations that help bring

smiles to the faces of the forgotten children in our community. “It is my dream to keep growing the #DWYD Toy & Book

Drive to even greater successes and bringing more of the community and its businesses, organizations and leaders

together to bring positive change to our city of Milwaukee and beyond. Anything and everything is possible.” Collecting

donations sends a message to the children of our community that...
