    Nutrition Is Complicated on Purpose

Nutrition has become complicated on purpose. Not by accident... by design. Keegan sits down with Shane, Brendan, and Jessica to break down why the nutrition industry profits from your confusion, and what "boring" nutrition actually looks like when you strip the noise away. In this episode: - Why fad diets all boil down to the same trick... restriction wearing a different name - The 2019 NIH metabolic ward study that proved it: people given ultra-processed food ate 500 more calories a day than people given whole food, with every other variable controlled - The "healthy" food marketing trap — how vegan burgers, gluten-free Oreos, and protein pop-tarts are built to sound better than they are - Why the scale is lying to you, and what to track instead - The study that found people underestimate what they eat by 1,000 calories a day... without exception - The only three supplements Shane, Brendan, and Jessica actually recommend, out of a $177 billion industry mostly selling you nothing - And Shane's jaw-wired-shut story. You'll want to hear this one. This is the general nutrition conversation. If you want the practical, step-by-step protocol we didn't cover here, that's free inside The Longevity Lab community on Skool. PCOS, Fertility, and a Decade Out of the Gym | Jessica's Comeback Story

Jessica didn't ease back into fitness. She fought her way back. After years as a competitive gymnast and cheerleader, then six years in the Air Force National Guard, Jessica hit a wall she didn't see coming: a dual diagnosis of PCOS and endometriosis that made having kids anything but guaranteed. She went through surgery, fertility treatments, and two miscarriages before having her son and then twin girls. With three kids under three and no family nearby, the gym stopped existing. For five years, she was just surviving. The turning point came from two wedding invites. Both friends getting married within six weeks of each other. She hired a coach, tracked macros for the first time, ran a 12-week program, and didn't look back. Today she works at Peak City Gym as a Pilates instructor, personal trainer, and nutrition coach. In this episode, Jessica talks about what it actually felt like to walk back into a gym after a decade away, how she managed nutrition with three kids and no time, why she believes personal experience matters more than any certification, and how PCOS symptoms were dismissed for years because she was athletic and thin. If you have been putting your fitness on hold because life got in the way, this one is for you. 3 Pillars of Resilience for Adults Over 40: Which One Matters Most? | Ep. 10

Can you still get up off the floor without thinking about it? That's resilience — and after 40, it doesn't happen by accident. In this episode of The Longevity Lab, the Peak City Gym coaches break down the three pillars of a physically resilient body — mobility, strength, and stability — and debate which one actually matters most when you're trying to stay strong, independent, and injury-free for the long haul. We get into why "training smarter, not harder" stops being optional in your 40s, how reduced recovery capacity changes the way you should train, and why building muscle is the armor that protects you against injury and chronic illness. What we cover: The real difference between mobility and flexibility (and why most people confuse them)Why stability is the foundation everything else is built on — core stability equals distal mobilityThe joint-by-joint approach: which joints need mobility, which need stabilityWhy we train movement patterns, not isolated muscles — and how that hits every muscle in 3 days a weekStrength as the #1 longevity tool: grip strength, getting off the ground, and surviving the fallHow strength training fights chronic lower back painThe minimum effective dose for mobility workConsistency vs. intensity: which to fix first3 things you can start today with zero equipment to build resilienceThe verdict on the "most important" pillar might not be what you expect — and the one habit that beats all three is simpler than any of them. If you want to build a body that keeps doing what you love for as long as possible, this one's for you. Coaching adults over 40 at Peak City Gym in Apex, North Carolina. The Hard Truth About Retirement: Why Your Health Is the Real Nest Egg

You can save for 40 years and still go broke in retirement — paying it all back in healthcare instead of spending it on the bucket list. That's the hard truth. Fresh off a webinar with Left Tackle Advisors, the Peak City Gym coaches unpack what financial planners won't tell you: all the money in the world can't buy your health back once it's gone. One billionaire said it best — when every swallow hurts, you're not thinking about your bank account. This episode breaks down the physical side of protecting your independence and freedom in retirement, and exactly what to do about it before it's too late. What we cover: Why the 35–45 window is your real starting line — and what to do if you're already past itSarcopenia: why losing muscle is about far more than looks (it's your glucose sponge and your injury insurance)Collagen degradation: the 1–2% yearly decline after 30, why diet and sugar accelerate it, and whether supplements actually helpOsteopenia & osteoporosis explained — why more men and people in their 30s are getting diagnosed, and how to reverse it"Genetics load the gun, lifestyle pulls the trigger" — the uncomfortable truth about agingWhy calcium alone won't save your bones (and the role of vitamin D, K2, and collagen)The 4 best predictors of longevity: VO2 max, grip strength, walking speed, and the sitting-rising testWhat a real strength program looks like for this population — frequency, recovery, movement patterns, and progressive overloadWhy swimming won't build bone density — and what willBuilding a bigger buffer now means you start aging from a position of strength instead of from already depleted.
