Love Thy Niebuhr

The hosts and variety of guests and their perspectives is what keeps me listening to this podcast. That and it’s relevancy for today. Thank you to the hosts and guests for sharing about the life and works of Reinhold Niebuhr.

The “What would Neibuhr do” scenarios, especially the ones at Halloween “Where’s the ethics, DIETRICH?” Matt Anderson and Niebuhr as a Hebraic prophet Clif calling Niebuhr “ya boy” and “the illest realist” Slamming on Billy Graham, say what? Yes, Niebuhr went there. It’s fun listening to Clif tweak Zach about John Calvin and total depravity Frequent references to Kierkegaard. Who doesn’t love some existential angst? Clif’s extraordinarily awful Halloween puns Manichean smackdowns with Dr. Jeremy Sabella and Dr. Jon Weatherly Aaron’s Henry Ford jokes Niebuhr’s bromance with Abraham Joshua Heschel (sigh) (Gordon Mehler episode) Niebuhr vs Barth. Seriously, Karl Barth needed an uneasy conscience. Paul Tillich too. Dr. Robin Lovin as “The Godfather of Niebuhr Studies” Zach’s earnestness. Also, his favorite question for every guest, “Why Niebuhr?” The exploration of Niebuhr’s relationship with his brother, H. Richard. (Scott Paeth episode) Eli Valentin is an absolutely delightful guest It’s always fun when the hosts quote Cornel West, especially when it’s “we’re sinners saved by grace with gangster proclivities” I can’t realistically name drop every guest. If you love Niebuhr or are intrigued by him, this podcast is for you. Clif, Zach, and Aaron are true Niebuhr fans. They wrestle with his words and break down books chapter by chapter. When they have guests, they do their homework and come prepared to ask great questions. Also, they are lots of fun on Twitter.
