    Your Work is God's Grandchild - Dante's Inferno - Part 2 (What We're Reading #4)

    This is part two of Tim and Jim’s look at Dante’s Inferno in the What We're Reading series. As Dante figuratively depicts the ultimate outcome of the sins of violence, he points out that tyrants are murderers who also destroy property, and with it, people’s labor. We discuss how money is a distillation of someone’s time and labor, how usury and money-printing tend to foster a tyrannical "time warp" that prints away decades of saved work. We conclude with a striking metaphor from Dante: that our work, art, and craft (and the things they produce) are like our child and so also God’s “grandchild” - hence, to mercilessly destroy the property of humans is an act of violence against God.
