We visit the Fête of Britain to investigate the future of democracy, a giant ear, a UN marble run, a Brian Eno audio-visual-scape and the sounds of Manchester's finest on the LOWD Soundsystem... 



This is an invitation to musicians, creatives, organisers, activists and anyone who wishes they could fix up the world a bit.



We all know the problems. This event was about the solutions. Hope, imagination, mobilisation and our collective potential to ✨ the future.



The Fête of Britain was a festival of art, comedy, music and activism from the newly formed Hard Art collective. As Lee Jasper put it “A cultural thought experiment into the future of democracy” with a healthy dose of lols, people power and proper knees up with the LOWD Soundsystem 💃😤

Soul, power and spirit ✨

Ayan is an activist, advocate, poet and founder of Voicing Voices, an equity consultancy with a special focus on intersectionality and identity based discrimination.

·

We first worked together on a youth voices event at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Watching her put an arm round the shoulder of a teenage girl to give her a pep talk before they want on stage together was a very special moment.

·

Her musical selections are soulful, spiritual and lyrical. Heads were nodding in the studio!

Cooking up something special!

Jess is a Bristolian raver, a traveller and a passionate advocate for migrants and refugees. I've known her nearly 20 years, since she arrived at my primary school from Scotland, and we've been friends ever since. 

•

She's always been politically aware and unafraid to challenge what she thinks is wrong. Seeing her found Migrateful, a cooking school led by migrant and refugee chefs, and take it from strength to strength has made me very proud!

•

Her musical selections span 5 countries - England, Ireland, Mexico, Senegal and America - each with a story to tell.

Esther is a proud santiaguina, an agricultural engineer, a feminist and above all else - a lifelong Scout. I met her from the other side of the world, in lockdown, when Chile was emerging from massive social riots and beginning the process of rewriting their constitution. 

•

She's an incredibly warm, open, optimistic person who dedicates her spare time to The Scouts, so that children can share some of the experiences which changed her life when she was their age.  

•

Her musical selections span 60's psychedelia, female-empowering latin pop and one track so chill it makes the world pause.
