Making Space for Place is a podcast for educators where we dive into the idea of place-based learning. Join us as we look at research and talk with guests about their experiences to learn more about bringing place into the classroom! Hosts: Vicki Harrington - Vicki is a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom, currently teaching in Fillmore, NY. Ella Hotchkiss - Ella is a middle school English as a New Language teacher, currently teaching at Sodus Central School. Jerbrel Bowens - Jerbrel Bowens is currently a music educator located in Rochester NY where he teaches music.

    Ep. 3 Place Across Contexts

    We want to compare place-based literacy implementation strategies across cultural and geographical contexts because they may differ but also may have similar ideas and practices to ensure the success of their students and community. Charlotte Miller- Charlotte is a reading specialist working at Sodus Central School. She works mostly with middle grade students (5-8), but has experience working with high school students as well. Her past teaching experiences vary widely, from work on the Mohawk reservation, to placements in the Rochester City School District (including the Monroe County Children’s Detention Center), and landing in her current rural district for the past nine years.

She currently works in an urban district, though has diverse experience, having worked in rural, suburban, and urban districts.
