Muhyiddin’s ‘lesson’ backfired, says Hamzah; DAP MPs slam Kula’s appearance with Arun

KiniNews is now also available on Spotify and Apple podcasts.[KiniNews] Larut MP Hamzah Zainudin has openly linked his expulsion from Bersatu to party president Muhyiddin Yassin, claiming that the latter may have intended the move to “teach him a lesson”, but ended up with the opposite result.“Perhaps my expulsion was something that people would say was meant to ‘teach Larut a lesson’, but he was mistaken - it turns out it’s not easy to teach Larut a lesson. And it ended up backfiring on him - ‘now it’s your turn to learn a lesson’,” he said.Meanwhile, in a separate story several DAP leaders have slammed fellow party member, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M Kulasegaran, for his appearance alongside activist Arun Dorasamy at the Jawi Magistrate’s Court in Penang yesterday.Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid, and central executive committee member Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said that while they respected Kulasegaran’s position as a party veteran, his action is inadmissible, especially given his capacity in the government.“The said action has sparked public controversy regarding the integrity of the country’s legal syste," they said.___________________Support independent media, subscribe to Malaysiakini.com - https://membership.malaysiakini.com/membership/start?internal_source=kinitv

MPs red flag MACC probing itself on 'corporate mafia'; Na'imah's lawyer questioned

KiniNews is now also available on Spotify and Apple podcasts.[KiniNews] Three lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have raised concerns that the MACC is involved in the multi-agency probe that the cabinet had ordered into the "corporate mafia" claims. They also opined that the multi-agency probe in itself is insufficient and should instead be part of an investigation led by a royal commission of inquiry (RCI).Yesterday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the cabinet had ordered the police, Inland Revenue Board (IRB), MACC and Securities Commission (SC), among others, to investigate the "corporate mafia" claims and look into loopholes that allow for "corporate manipulation".Meanwhile, in a separate story, Lawyer Nizamuddin Hamid, who is representing Na’imah Abdul Khalid, was called in for questioning at Bukit Aman today. He had his statement recorded to assist in investigations into allegations of a plot to overthrow the government and undermine national stability, reportedly involving a local influential figure and an international media agency.___________________Support independent media, subscribe to Malaysiakini.com - https://membership.malaysiakini.com/membership/start?internal_source=kinitv ---[AD[ Spread the Rezeki this Raya with over RM2,000,000* in rewards from Tropicana! ✨Get a Samsung Music Frame, 100% Legal Fees covered & more* when you purchase selected properties.👇 Click for full info🔗 https://bit.ly/raya26-mkvideo📆 1 Mar – 18 Apr 2026*T&Cs apply.

Use of edited video not Azam’s decision - Prosecutor; Govt starts austerity measures

KiniNews is now also available on Spotify and Apple podcasts.[KiniNews] The lead prosecutor in Muhyiddin Yassin’s corruption trial has defended the use of edited videos in his case against the Bersatu president amid criticism levelled against perceived double standards by the MACC.This is after the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Center) yesterday urged MACC to clarify its position on using edited videos as evidence in investigations into the former premier.Newly appointed deputy head II of the Attorney-General’s Chambers Trial and Appeal division, Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, said it was his decision to use edited videos in the trial, and not Azam's.Meanwhile, in a separate story, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced austerity measures for the government amid skyrocketing oil prices due to the intensifying conflict in the Middle East. While assuring that Putrajaya will maintain the Budi95 fuel subsidy for Malaysians, Anwar said foreign travel for ministers and all government departments will be limited, except for those that have already been scheduled and are compulsory to attend.Ministries, agencies and government-linked companies (GLCs) will also not be hosting Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house celebrations this year.___________________Support independent media, subscribe to Malaysiakini.com - https://membership.malaysiakini.com/membership/start?internal_source=kinitv
