Monsters & Mocktails: Halloween Episode, the Rougarou

Happy Spooky Season!! This week Emily tells us about the rougarou, the legendary Cajun werewolf. The rougarou was often used as a cautionary tale for children and adults alike. If you have ever experienced a rougarou let us know! Our zero proof drink this week is very fitting - it is the Rougarou coffee blend by French Truck Coffee. They typically offer this every year around this time and it is so good! This blend is made up of Honduran and Colombian coffee and has notes of praline, caramel, and chocolate brownie sweetness. Emily also wanted to shout out Clearly Canadian which she loves! The Murder of Emma Austraw; Episode 39

Happy Malice Monday! We're back with a brand new true crime case - the Murder of Emma Austraw. April, 1919 - Emma was just 19 years old when she was brutally attacked and murdered near the school where she taught in Derry Township, PA. Three men are arrested and accused of the crime, but justice is not necessarily obtained in this case. Our mocktail this week is called JONI! A HUGE thank you to our new friend Claire, also the founder of JONI, for sharing with us samples including Verjus Drink Blanc and Rouge. Both drinks are lightly sweet, a little tart, and made from pre-harvest grapes that are picked to give the other grapes a little more elbow room. Enjoy either as is or get creative by incorporating them into your favorite mocktail recipe of choice, or create your own recipe. Stay tuned in the coming months as Claire joins us as a guest on the show. Special shoutout to Carmen and Joanna from Live, Laugh, Murder podcast! Each week Carmen tells Joanna a story that could be the plot of a horror movie or the events of a true crime case. Check out their promo at the top of the episode and give them a listen! https://drinkjoni.com/ @drinkjoni on Instagram Sources https://newspaperarchive.com/washington-times-may-04-1919-p-1/ https://newspaperarchive.com/titusville-herald-may-06-1919-p-1/ https://newspaperarchive.com/harrisburg-telegraph-sep-12-1919-p-18/ https://newspaperarchive.com/philadelphia-inquirer-may-07-1919-p-12/ https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/135596826/emma-j.-austraw The Empty Classroom by Andrea Niapas
