After 7 years of being anonymous, 1.5 million words written about beer, and preaching the gospel of Barleywine is Life, Don't Drink Beer's Alex Kidd gets into the deep, dark world of podcasting. Joining him are his co-hosts, comedy writers and performers Stephen Loh and Michael Gabriel. Together they explore the absurd underbelly of the craft beer world while also discussing movies, music, video games, pop culture, and their sad, basement dwelling lives.

Batch 154: The Celebrity Tequila Mogul Episode
See what happens when Kendall Jenner, E-40, and The Rock face off in an agave fueled deathmatch to determine who is top of their class when it comes to being a celebrity tequila mogul. Then in the Beer News, we hopefully get some slightly less stupid beer laws when the USPS Shipping Equity Act is introduced to Congress. Plus, a round of The Celebrity Tequila Mogul Game.
Batch 153: Year Of The Ratmagnet
The craft beer industry is forced to confront issues it's long overlooked or ignored after brewer Brienne Allan asked the question “What sexist comments have you experienced?” on her Instagram (@ratmagnet). What followed was thousands of stories from beer industry workers about the sexism, misogyny, and sexual abuse they experience far too regularly, often times on a daily basis. Stories about working in breweries, working with distributors, and dealing with management and regulars in bars & restaurants
Batch 152: Helles is Other Ferengis
More lawsuit drama hits the Wynwood, FL craft beer scene, this time with more Ferengis included in the sci-fi murals. Alex tries to get on the Malty Scoreboard and finally get a win when he faces Michael in a round of Fresno: The Game. Michael is once again subjected the Tröegs. In the Bottleshare, Alex gets crispy with a Helles from Zillicoah Beer Company while Stephen sees if size matters.
Batch 151: Enter Stupid Contests, Win Stupid Prizes
There's nothing more macro beer than holding a contest where you can win lots of money. This year, the macro beer gods blessed it's drinkers with not one but two such contests. One requires drinkers to know how put together a coherent sentence, the other requires drinkers to press a button. In other Beer News, Dogfish Head has entered the Wynwood, FL arena. Alex brings in bargain bin Cantillon and a gem of a barleywine from BKS Artisan Ales.
Batch 150: Maple Showdown
Each of the Malty Boyz™ bring in two maple treats that will battle it out in a too sweet cagematch before being thrown into the never disputed Power Rankings. Who will reign atop the sticky mountain of tapped sap? Before getting into the Bottle Share, Michael leads Alex and Stephen in a game of "Beer or Maple Syrup Review?" In the Beer News, pickle drama in Texas, Untappd pettiness from More Brewing against Phase Three, and a Budweiser promotion leads to stolen pup valor.
December 3, 2020
A date that will live in infamy - Alex Kidd accidentally destroys the world of beer as we know it. Alex Kidd innocently offers Smooj to his co-hosts creating what is colloquially known as the “Post-Smooj Era”. Not a day goes by that I wonder if Alex Kidd regrets bringing Smooj on the show. Alex now tries to downplay his decision as he scoffs at PMG and Stephen like petulant children when the weekly Smooj banter comes up on the podcast. When Smooj easily wins the Seltzer cup, let it be written in stone - Beer is dead. Long Live Smooj.
Barleywine is Life
I’ve been following DDB for a while. I even started listening to this over 2 years ago. The comedy is great, the improv is even better, and the beer knowledge is top notch, but the one thing you will learn is that Barleywine is Life. I’ve even started answering spam phone calls and texts with “can you tell me your stance on Barleywine and why it is Life?”.. and I’ve even been replied to. Stay High Gravity friends.
Best beer pod - 1.25 stars
The number one craft beer podcast CLAIMS it’s not only for beer people. Well I’m checking in to confirm that this highly attenuated pod also offers quarter-baked improv sketches that often just peter off into dead air, and are mashed into the base wort-chat in the same halting manner that your radio wavers back and forth between NPR and Christian Country when you’re almost halfway to Stockton. For real though, as a craft beer rep, this pod properly captures the laughing mask/crying mask emoji 🎭 balance required to live your days in the wild world of American craft beer. Best beer pod i’ve heard, 1.75 stars.
