Roman Graffiti Was Pretty Naughty
This episode was inspired by the band that made me a Classics major: Bastille. Roman graffiti really does have me asking: how am I gonna be an optimist about this? This episode we learned about Pompeii, Mt. Vesuvius, Pliny the Younger, Roman graffiti and scriptores.
Shoutout to my ex-boyfriend Alden for literally yelling at me until I finished this episode.

Maenads, and Dionysus, and Orgies, Oh My!

Well informed and important podcast
As someone with a PhD in Classics who publishes on and teaches Classics, I can tell you this podcast is not only well researched, but addresses some of the most pressing issues in the discipline. And it does so in such an engaging and authentic manner. I plan on assigning some of these episodes to my students this coming fall. I strongly recommend this podcast for amateurs and professionals alike!
Manic Classics ignites the magic of the ancient world in all of us
Manic Classics is a masterclass in how to take something that seems unapproachable and complex like classics into something manageable and hilarious. Maia’s dry wit and storytelling combines with the stories from across the Mediterranean to create something both intriguing and educational. Additionally Maia’s willingness to talk about current events like her BLM episode show her ability to navigate any conversation. A big recommendation for educators in classics, college students bored, and anyone who read Percy Jackson as a kid
This podcast revitalized my marriage
I’m a steminist and my wife is a classicist. She often criticizes me for not taking her interests seriously. I’ve been able to rekindle our romance because of this podcast. I now know enough to joke about 7 minutes worth of conversation every time a new episode comes out. Thanks Maia!
