Two friends, one who loves both Jane Austen and David Lynch, one who is only passingly familiar with both, explore their bodies of work and the adaptations of that work. Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mannersandmadness/support

Legend, 1985
This week we are reaching back to 1985 and one of our favorite 80’s fantasy movies and a Tim Curry movie to boot, Legend. It’s got all the tropes, none of the pants, and it’s thoroughly enjoyable.

Persuasion 1971, Pt. 2
This week we wrap up the BBC Persuasion from 1971. We love this Anne and have mixed reactions to the other characters but overall we are really enjoying these older adaptations.

Persuasion 1971, Pt. 1
This week we are reaching back to 1970’s BBC yet again, this time to experience their adaptation of Persuasion. We watched the first half of this very 70’s adaptation that has a lot going for it, and maybe a few things working against it.

On the Air, episodes 5 - 7
This week we finish up the short lived comedy that followed Twin Peaks, On the Air. It was a wild ride and didn’t follow the conventional rules of comedy. Was it successful? Maybe not entirely but we were glad to get to watch it regardless.

On the Air, episodes 1 - 4
This week we are getting obscure and covering On the Air, the show David Lynch and Mark Frost created right after Twin Peaks. Only 2 -3 episodes were ever aired but we are covering the full 7 episodes that were recorded. It’s a sitcom, it’s strange, and we have a lot of thoughts.

Emma 1972, episodes 4-6
This week we wrap up Emma 1972, and we really liked this one. Maybe our favorite Knightly, a great Emma, and surprisingly funny.

Love this show.
Love the show and love their dynamic. I was expecting it to start with one Austen fan and one Lynch fan but Maya was the fan of both and Christian was the newcomer to both. The show is a fun not too serious look at both subjects in depth but they down drown you with minutiae. My only complaint is the audio levels are not the most consistent but they have rereleased a few episodes with improved audio as they became more experienced. There are a lot of Twin Peaks podcasts and Jane Austen podcasts but this is I’m pretty sure the only one that does both. Their dynamic is what makes doing both work without feeling jarring or forced. 5/5 -Blake
Came for the Austen, but now curious about Lynch!
As an avid Austen reader and lover of anything period drama, I’ve so enjoyed this podcast, and it’s entertained me through many a long drive! I’d never watched anything David Lynch before this, but am now easing into a couple of his works out of sheer curiosity after listening to about all the Austen related episodes :)
Wonderful
Just recently discovered this podcast and am already in love! I’m a Stitcher user, and for some reason there are only 4 episodes of this show on Stitcher, but this podcast is worth using a second app for, that’s how much fun it is! Never would have thought to combine Austen and Lynch but it really works wonders seeing their work juxtaposed like this. High recommend!
