The Mount Rushmore of Eddie Murphy: BOWFINGER and DOLEMITE IS MY NAME

The Mount Rushmore of Eddie Murphy: BOWFINGER and DOLEMITE IS MY NAME

We finish off Eddie Murphy's Mt. Rushmore with two movies about making movies.
The only way one host could get the other to talk about Steve Martin and Yoda's BOWFINGER was to talk about the Netflix Original DOLEMITE IS MY NAME. And being the gracious host that Mike is... he enjoyed both.

Meanwhile Jairo is a jerk. Enjoy!

The Mount Rushmore of Eddie Murphy: BOOMERANG

The Mount Rushmore of Eddie Murphy: BOOMERANG

Everything a man learned about love was from this great romcom starring Eddie Murphy.
There are moments in a young man's life when it all makes sense. That was the release of Reginald Hudlin's BOOMERANG on July 1, 1992. Anything that followed, be it marriage or the birth of a child... not as good. We think guest Derek of The Grand Gesture will back this up.

The Mount Rushmore of Eddie Murphy: BEVERLY HILLS COP

The Mount Rushmore of Eddie Murphy: BEVERLY HILLS COP

The highest grossing film of 1984 is our first entry in the Mt. Rushmore of Eddie Murphy.
In this particular instance we find ourselves shocked at the masses realizing a good thing immediately... and also the likability of Judge Reinhold as the straight man to the obviously more entertaining role of Axel Foley. In fact... most of the cops are surprisingly likable in this movie. But we won't promote that fact on Twitter. Just in these show notes. That hopefully no one is reading. Enjoy!

NORTH BY NORTHWEST and the Mount Rushmore of Movies

NORTH BY NORTHWEST and the Mount Rushmore of Movies

From Alfred Hitchcock to Woody Allen and finally something less controversial in TROPIC THUNDER.
When changing formats it's always best to find something we can all agree on like the movie NORTH BY NORTHWEST and then be disagreeable for the entire conversation. The only thing we can agree on is that Javier Bardem is a great way to start a threesome.

Welcome to the new MARK AS PLAYED in which we aim to mark the greatest foursomes in film. Let's see how long we can last.

SIN CITY and the Substance of Style

SIN CITY and the Substance of Style

This episode on SIN CITY is not only about style as substance... but also how what we consider substantive storytelling changes as we become scared old men shouting out clouds. Speaking of which we embrace a new President so that maybe we can get back to those carefree days of Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen and Bruce Willis essentially playing the same character. As long as that character is not Donald Trump things can only be looking up!

    MARATHON MAN and Movie Roadblocks

There are some things one can't just see past as a moviegoer.
    Like Dustin Hoffman running.
And he runs a lot in MARATHON MAN.
    It's a problem.
    Enjoy!
