Now Playing Podcast Presents: The Marvel Retrospective Series

I like listening to the Marvel episodes they make because the hosts are very obviously just Marvel viewers, not hardcore Marvel fans, and I’m always interested to hear what those people have to say about Marvel movies, especially since they’re not as invested into the overall story like I am. Marvel shows, Marvel comics, Marvel movies, Marvel books, I’ll take ‘em all, but these hosts like to pick and choose. When they see Loki, they don’t see a relatable character who’s become like a friend to me. And it’s interesting to hear a character like that discussed when they’re not fully invested in his story. Marvel is my home away from home, and I will always be curious to see what other other people think of it when it’s not their go to place. Keep podcasting! Higher, Further, Faster! PS Give Sylvie a chance. She’s incredible. We need more strong women like her in the MCU. And Sophia Di Martino rocked.

I really wanted to like this because I love these movies, but UGH. Only one of these guys has any real interest in and knowledge of comics so if you're looking for commentary laced with comics knowledge and actual enthusiasm for these films you won't find much of it here. But by far the WORST part for me is their nasty attitudes. I can't get through one episode without listening to these guys talk about how female characters are useless or distracting or (insert negative adjective here) unless they think she's hot, in which case I get to hear endless innuendos and jokes about sleeping with her and how hot she is. The episode on The Wolverine and any and all discussion of Mystique is particularly bad, which is disappointing since I checked out this podcast specifically for the X-Men reviews. Overall I'm just really disappointed and find that the bad totally ruins the good for me.
