Matt Waldman’s RSP Cast 2020 NFL Projection Series with Dwain McFarland: Cincinnati Bengals

Matt Waldman’s RSP Cast continues its summer NFL Projection Series with PFF Fantasy analyst Dwain McFarland. In this episode, they perform an in-depth look into the Cincinnati Bengals and why they agree Joe Mixon is earning too much love.

Rookie Scouting Portfolio author Matt Waldman pairs up with Pro Football Focus fantasy analyst and high stakes competitor Dwain McFarland for their second year of projecting the NFL’s offenses. In this episode, Matt and Dwain compare their projections (and the process behind the work), analytic, and film observations of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.

    * Why the love for Joe Mixon in 2020 is predicated on skewed data from the second half of 2019.

    * Matt's concerns about Joe Burrow short-term that could exacerbate challenges for Mixon in 2020.

    * Will the Bengals have a Justin Jefferson option in this passing game and who is it?

    * Why Giovani Bernard is yet another factor who will limit Mixon's ceiling.

    * Two running backs on the depth chart you should know about not named Mixon or Bernard.

    * How the Sean McVay-influenced offense creates a four-headed receiver situation.

In this episode, Matt and Dwain compare their projections (and the process behind the work), analytic, and film observations of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.

    * Why the Pittsburgh Steelers mean what they say about James Conner as the feature back.

    * Why JuJu Smith-Schuster is a better bargain than last year and why Matt is back on board.

    * Dwain's analysis of Diontae Johnson and the promise his game holds.

Matt Waldman’s RSP Projections Series: 2020 Baltimore Ravens with PFF’s Dwain McFarland

Matt Waldman’s RSP Projections Series: 2020 Baltimore Ravens with PFF’s Dwain McFarland

Matt Waldman’s RSP Cast continues its summer NFL Projection Series with PFF Fantasy analyst Dwain McFarland. In this episode, they perform an in-depth look into the Baltimore Ravens offense—a unit that could still be on the rise.

PFF Fantasy analyst Dwain McFarland joins Rookie Scouting Portfolio author Matt Waldman for another episode of our annual NFL projection series. In this podcast, Dwain and Matt spend more than an hour comparing their statistical projections for the Baltimore Ravens offense in 2020.

    * How the data and film marry to indicate that Lamar Jackson should have a similar season to 2019 and the touch-points where those totals could rise or fall?

    * Where must opposing defense limit Jackson to force a higher percentage of passing from the Ravens offense?

    * How Devin Duvernay's versatility could be the key to replacing Hayden Hurst rather than Nick Boyle earning more targets?

    * Why do Mark Andrews and Marquise Brown have significantly greater statistical upside this year?

    * What makes J.K. Dobbins a potential league-winner for fantasy teams and when is he worth paying the premium to draft?

    * What are the potential scenarios that could play out with the Ravens backfield that favor Dobbins and/or Mark Ingram?

Matt Waldman's RSP Cast continues its summer NFL Projection Series with PFF Fantasy analyst Dwain McFarland. In this episode, they perform an in-depth look into the Cleveland Browns and the film and data complement famously.

Rookie Scouting Portfolio author Matt Waldman pairs up with Pro Football Focus fantasy analyst and high stakes competitor Dwain McFarland for their second year of projecting the NFL's offenses. In this episode, Matt and Dwain compare their projections (and the process behind the work), analytic, and film observations of the Cleveland Browns offense.

    * Why Baker Mayfield's accuracy has been a longstanding issue with his game.

    * Why Kevin Stefanski's arrival from Minnesota and the offseason personnel acquisitions make Cleveland's offensive plans obvious.

    * Is Odell Beckham's ceiling of potential lower in this offense than ever before?

    * What makes Jarvis Landry the receiver that will remain on the field no matter what?

    * Where do Matt and Dwain differ on Austin Hooper's receiving production?

Matt Waldman’s RSP Cast Projection Series with Dwain McFarland: Philadelphia and Washington

Matt Waldman’s RSP Cast Projection Series with Dwain McFarland: Philadelphia and Washington

RSP contributor Dwain McFarland joins the RSP Cast to kick off our team-by-team NFL projection series for the 2020 season with an in-depth examination of Philadelphia and Washington's offenses.

Dwain McFarland (@dwainmcfarland) and I continue our excellent conversations about how to project offenses with a look at the Philadelphia and Washington offenses:

    * Why do Matt and Dwain believe there's a ceiling for Miles Sanders that's lower than the current buzz and the manufacturer of that barrier is Boston Scott?

    * Could Jalen Reagor be the leading wide receiver on the depth chart as a rookie?

    * Why is Desean Jackson an excellent choice as a fourth or fifth option for fantasy wide receiver depth charts?

    * How do the stats regarding Carson Wentz's accuracy match up perfectly with Matt's long-time film assessments?

    * Which receivers beyond Terry McLaurin have a chance to shine in Washington?

    * Why are Dwain and Matt split on Antonio Gibson's prospects as a rookie?

    * What was Matt's personal wish for Adrian Peterson in 2020?

As mentioned in previous podcasts, I highly recommend reading McFarland’s new piece at the RSP site on How to Project NFL Offenses. If you’re a fantasy player, NFL beat writer, or football analyst, you should consider learning to do your own projections and Dwain has over 20 years of experience as well as success in high stakes fantasy leagues.

Even if you don’t have time to do projections and want pointers on how to select others, this article is a great resource.

Matt Waldman’s RSP Quick Game with Mark Schofield:

Matt Waldman's RSP Cast returns with a July episode of the Quick Game with Mark Schofield and they cover everything from Cam Newton to marriage advice for Matt Harmon.

In this 90-minute episode of the Quick Game, Mark Schofield and discuss a dozen juicy football topics, what we're watching on TV these days, and marriage advice for Yahoo! Matt Harmon:

    * Who benefits most from Cam Newton in New England?

    * What factors are you taking into account with Antonio Brown's potential signing with the Seattle Seahawks?

    * If the NFL restricts practice access to beat writers, what advice should fans heed about news from a second-hand source?

    * Is taking a blanket approach of caution with rookies due to the coronavirus too reactionary?

    * Have we abandoned our high expectations for Sammy Watkins too soon?

    * Skill players from teams that will employ 12 personnel as its base look that will win or lose due to the alignment.

    * Could we expect a record season from Tom Brady?

    * What we value about quarterback footwork when scouting collegians.

    * Will Drew Brees have another 5,000-yard campaign in 2020?

    * Is Teddy Bridgewater a good fit in Carolina? Is he Carolina's "Joe Burrow" without the deep accuracy?

    * Our 2020 rookie sleepers.

And yes, TV talk and marital advice (or martial advice--depending on the marriage).

GREAT INSIGHT IN EVERY SHOW

Matt is the best in the business. The way he presents his thoughts on players and explains his process makes him a must listen/follow/read and watch for ALL fantasy players and anybody else that truly loves football in general

The best

My favorite podcaster/youtuber to listen to.

Some great analytical data but lacks attention holding

Too monotone for my liking, despite great content. The other issue is of dozen podcasts I subscribe to, this one is always having a trouble playing. I’m not sure if that’s Apple (the podcast app I use) or their server(s) uploading the content. Either way, it’s frustrating to wait for a podcast to constantly “buffer.”
