Damon tells us the story of his life and the lessons he has learned along the way. A story of an All-American kid who essentially has everything in life going his way yet he ends up on the streets of Dallas an addict and a thief. Damon grew up in a very loving and nurturing family with two amazing parents. From Port Arthur, TX, he lives out every young man's dream of becoming a Division 1 college quarterback. After college he goes to work in politics and investments -- he has it all until he doesn't. But, this is a story of redemption and he walks us through the amazing lessons he has learned along the way from some of the most unexpected teachers. The story of 'The Coffee Bean', a book he co-authored with Jon Gordon will provide a life lesson you will likely never forget. Damon also chronicled his entire journey from college to prison to life after prison in his book, 'The Change Agent' and we are so fortunate to have him on the show to share it with us. Episode 95: "The Character Edge", Lt. General Bob Caslen and Dr. Mike Matthews
The MAP boys were honored to sit down with Lt. General (Retired) Bob Caslen and Dr. Mike Matthews to discuss the important role that character plays in our lives. Among the many topics discussed were character as a "toolbox" of attributes that is a great "multiplier of talent" and predictor of great leadership. The co-authors of "The Character Edge: Leading and Winning with Integrity" also discussed: the reason they decided to write the book, what to do when there is a default in character, what makes up character, how to build character, the importance of trust in leadership and many other great topics.
General Caslen is a United States veteran, who served in the US Army for 43 years. He was appointed the 59th superintendent at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was also selected to be the 29th President of the University of South Carolina. Some of the highlights from his highly decorated military career include Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation in Iraq, where he served as the senior military commander in Iraq after the drawdown of US and allied forces in 2011. Dr. Matthews is a Professor of Engineering Psychology at the United States Military Academy. Dr. Matthews has done extensive research on character and grit, including work with Angela Duckworth in researching the cadets at West Point. Dr. Matthews has authored over 250 scientific papers and is the author of the highly acclaimed book, "Head Strong: How Psychology is Revolutionizing War."

This week, the MAP boys sit down with Dr. Mary Ritz, the owner and founder of Almenta International. Almenta International focuses on customer management and leadership development training. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Dr. Ritz discusses the challenges she faced growing up in the Southern African country where there was a clear divide between privileged and non-privileged. How one inexplicable decision by her grandmother, who didn't speak English and couldn't read or write, changed the course of history for her and her family.
She also discusses what role education played in her life, the importance of HOPE and why we should stay flexible to those things that are happening in our lives.
