Mental Breakers is a podcast led by the YOMHEs (Youth Organizers of Mental Health Education), a group of Seattle based youth of color tackling the subjects of suicide prevention and mental health. This podcast explores both of these topics by providing listeners with a balance of personal stories and facts directly from the YOMHEs in an attempt to connect with the listeners whilst educating them about the lives that youth lead and the complexities that come with being a youth/young adult of color in this ever changing world.

    Mental Breaker Podcast S2 Episode 6: Ellen

    What’s good Mental Breaker listeners? We hope all of y’all are out here staying safe and healthy and that your families are found in good health. For this second to last episode of season 2 of Mental Breakers, we have Ellen up to bat. In this episode, Ellen brings up some small facts about how she has been doing throughout all of this situation and delves a little more into her personality and the person she believes she is. As the conversation progresses, Ellen delves very deep into very harsh concepts around the impact that one wants to make, the expectations that are placed on us as students, children, and people of a certain race and color, and how we adopt to the different things that are expected of us. Ellen gives very strong answers that can lead to a lot of inner reflection and thought because of how she is true to her own lived experience and the things that she has been through.     Mental Breaker Podcast S2 Episode 5: Gustavo

    What’s good y’all? Welcome back to another episode of mental breaker. In this episode we will get to hear from Gustavo. He has been one of the longest running YOMHEs and is considered one of the “original YOMHEs”, along with Messiah, who were there when the group began in the first place. Throughout this episode, Gustavo touches more on how he has been keeping busy throughout the quarantine and the beginnings of how he joined the group towards the beginning of the podcast. However, as the podcast goes on, the conversation becomes more personal as Gustavo begins to delve more into the realities of his life and the different things he feels drive him and provide him his passion. He especially emphasizes the importance that family has had when it comes to goal realization and the person he is now, also defining what family is/means to him. This is a longer one, but I hope you all enjoy it just as much. Thank you all for sticking with us, We’re all rooting for you and are here for you all.     Mental Breaker Podcast S2 Episode 4: Jazz

    Welcome back to Mental Breaker y’all! In this episode we meet Jazz. She has been a part of the YOMHE program since the summer of 2018. Throughout the podcast, Jazz keeps it real with us, talking about her beginnings within the program and the dope story that comes with her entering the program in the first place. Her excitement for the program is clear when she speaks on what YOMHE has provided her and she further enforces the ideas of great bonds and relationships. Jazz also brings a beautiful emphasis on self love and grounds her interests clearly throughout the podcast, once again, just keeping her experiences authentic and real. I hope you all enjoy this one, sorry if it is a little confusing to get at first because there isn't an interviewer asking all the questions, but the questions have remained the same throughout the whole podcast so hopefully it isn't too bad!     Welcome back to Mental Breaker everyone. In this episode we have a special guest, Marcel, joining us today. Marcel joined the YOMHES at the beginning of summer in 2018. He’s become a very fun and influential member of the group who is always bringing new information to the table backed up with a positive attitude to match. Marcel mentions how he chose to work with the YOMHES after it was recommended to him by a friend, and now he demonstrates how much he enjoys helping people with his down-to-earth attitude.     Hey, how’s it going everyone! Coming to you with a new episode of mental breaker. Melrose here has been with us since 2018, where he joined the YOMHE’s program during the beginning of the summer. Melrose is someone who always knows how to keep the energy positive and quirky anywhere and anytime, and this podcast was no exception. His love for making people smile is only as big as his love for the group and our mission; promoting positive mental health and raising mental awareness.     Welcome back to the Mental Breaker podcast y’all! For this season, we will be focusing on a more interview based format in order for you all to get to know a little bit more about the people that make the YOMHEs up. First up is Messiah. He is one of the original YOMHEs and has been with the group since the very beginning. He begins his podcast by telling us a little bit more about how he has been doing throughout the quarantine and what routines he has in place in order to better cope with everything going on. He later begins to delve more into himself, the people he thinks are important to him, and what are some of the passions he has and wants to move forward with.
