E19: Back at Old Gunpowder: Solving the "Second Nine" Struggle

Welcome back to The Mid-Range Method! In this episode, I’m returning to the familiar fairways of Old Gunpowder to put my game to the test. I’m breaking down my round—specifically the highlights and the lessons from my 94—as I continue my journey to lower my scoring average. Last week, I identified the seven specific hurdles currently holding my game back. This week, I'm going deep into one of them: Improving performance on the second nine. Many of us start strong only to lose momentum as the round progresses. I’m sharing the specific habits, mental cues, and routine adjustments I’m using to stay sharp and finish my rounds as strong as I start them. If you’ve ever felt like your score slips away after the turn, this episode is for you. In this episode, we cover: ➡️ The Round Report: My takeaways from Old Gunpowder and how the mid-range swing held up. ➡️ The 7 Hurdles: A quick recap of what’s holding my game back and how I’m addressing them one by one. ➡️ Second Nine Strategy: The exact habit-stacking techniques I’m using to maintain focus and energy through the final holes. Are you working on your consistency? Let’s get to work on the "Mid-Range Method." E18: The Preserve At Eisenhower Taught Me 7 Things Holding My Game Back

Tackling The Preserve at Eisenhower this week was a major wake-up call. It's a beautiful, challenging course, but walking away with a 105 made me realize it’s time for some serious reflection if I’m ever going to hit my goal of a 92 average. In this episode, I’m breaking down the raw truth about my game. No sugarcoating, no pretending to be a swing guru—just an honest look at the 7 major hurdles holding my game back right now: The Reality Check: Why I wasn't a true 98 average. The Distance Dilemma: Being too short off the tee. The Scorecard Bleeding: Way too many lost balls. The Critical Zone: Why I have to get better from 100 yards and in. The Card Wreckers: Too many 3-putts. The Mental Wall: Losing focus on the back nine. The Missing Tool: Why I need a reliable course-mapping app to see the layout before I play. This is what Mid-Range Swing is all about—documenting the real, gritty journey of an everyday golfer trying to play smarter, manage physical limits, and lower scores without changing my swing. 🗣️ Join the Conversation: Let me know: Which of these 7 hurdles is wrecking your scorecard the most right now? Let’s talk about it and shred our scorecards together! E16: Tracking the Journey: My May Scoring Average & Lessons Learned 📊🏌️‍♂️

We are officially rolling into the summer stretch of the 2026 golf season, and the grind to lower my scoring average down to a consistent 92 by November is in full swing! I logged 5 full rounds over the last month, and the theme of the season so far is rock-solid consistency. E15: Surviving the Squeeze at Walden CC: Fighting the Driver & Finding a Silver Lining

On this episode, I’m giving you an unvarnished review of my recent round at Walden Country Club in Crofton, Maryland—and I'm bringing the scorecard with me. I carded a 105, and on a tight, unforgiving track like Walden, this round was a masterclass in how quickly things can get away from you when you're battling fatigue. I break down the layout and conditions and get completely honest about my struggles off the tee. When the driver isn't behaving on a narrow course, you're playing defense on every single hole. But even on a triple-digit day, there were major bright spots. I’m celebrating a massive breakthrough in a zone that usually strikes fear into amateur players: the sand. I dig into why I'm finally feeling comfortable and confident when hitting out of green-side bunkers, and how that part of my game kept this tough round from spinning even further out of control. Finally, I'm getting transparent about the physical toll of the game. After months of heavy practice, testing, and logging consistent rounds, the baseline fatigue has caught up, and it absolutely showed up in my swing mechanics. I talk about the importance of listening to your body, knowing when to rest, and why taking a breather is a crucial part of long-term progress. Whether you're trying to break through a scoring plateau, battling an erratic driver, or just need a reminder that bad rounds happen to all of us, tune in for an honest look at the grind. E14: The 100 to 92 Turnaround: Grinding at Oak Creek & Bouncing Back at Bowie

Golf will humble you one day and give you hope the very next. In this episode, we are diving deep into a whirlwind 48 hours on the course that perfectly captures the reality of chasing a better game. First, I tackle a tough, gritty outing at Oak Creek Golf Club, where the scorecard ultimately added up to a 100. I pull back the curtain on the entire round—breaking down the course layout, sharing my honest review of the track, and walking you through the blow-by-blow scores. I'm talking about the bad shots, the missing Rescue club, and exactly where things went sideways. But the real magic happens in the post-round analysis. Instead of letting a triple-digit score defeat me, I broke down the data, adjusted my mindset, and went right back to work. The result? A massive bounce-back the very next day at Bowie Golf & Country Club, where everything clicked into place for a stellar 92. Tune in to hear how I managed the mental shift, what the post-round data revealed, and why staying focused and grinding through the tough days is the only way to unlock those breakthrough rounds. 🎧 What I Cover in This Episode: ➡️ Oak Creek Course Review: My honest thoughts on the layout and conditions. ➡️ The Scorecard Breakdown: Going through the numbers and identifying where the wheels came off. ➡️ Post-Round Analysis: How to look at a tough score objectively without losing your confidence. ➡️ The Bowie Bounce-Back: The adjustments that led to a 92 just 24 hours later.
