E:12 The Back-Nine Grind: Putting Progress and Fairway Woods at Hampshire Greens

In this episode, I’m breaking down my latest round at Hampshire Greens in Silver Spring, Maryland. Coming off a shaky week on the greens, the primary goal was finding a rhythm with the putter—and it finally clicked. I talk through the decision to lean heavily on my 5-wood and 7-wood throughout the day and how those clubs are starting to earn their keep. However, golf is a game of give and take; while the putting improved, the chipping took a step back, leading to a serious "grind" on the back nine to post a 94. What we cover in this episode ➡️Hampshire Greens Review: A look at one of Silver Spring's challenging tracks. ➡️Strategic Shifts: Forcing the use of fairway woods and the results. ➡️Short Game Seesaw: Balancing improved putting with a struggling chipping game. ➡️The Mental Game: What it takes to "grind out" a score when you don't have your best stuff. Whether you're a fellow weekend warrior or just enjoy the journey of improving your game, thanks for tuning in! E11: Grinding Through the University of Maryland GC & A Major Gear Swap

In this episode, I'm breaking down a recent round at the University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park. It was a day of high expectations and tough conditions, proving that sometimes the biggest challenge on the course isn't just the bunkers or the elevation changes—it's the clock. Inside this episode: The Course Review: My take on the UMD layout, known for its rolling hills and "stadium" feel. It’s a beautiful track, but it demands a lot of local knowledge to score. The Pace of Play Struggle: I’m getting real about how a slow day on the course affects more than just your scorecard. When the pace drags, my back starts talking to me, and managing a herniated disk while waiting on every tee box is a mental and physical battle. Flatstick Frustrations: A look at why my putting held me back this round. I’ll talk about those tricky, sloped greens and the lag putting struggles that kept me from hitting my target number. The Big Reveal: I’ve made a major change in the bag. After testing the Bridgestone e6, I’m officially switching to the Callaway Supersoft. I’ll explain why this ball is winning me over and how the feel around the greens is changing my approach. If you’ve ever had your rhythm broken by a five-hour round or wondered if a ball change could save your short game, this episode is for you. Welcome to the Mid-Range Swing, the podcast for the everyday golfer who knows that golf is as much about managing your body and your gear as it is about the swing. I’m documenting my journey to move from a 98.4 average down to a 92—all without a major swing overhaul. Whether I’m reviewing local Maryland courses, navigating the challenges of playing with a bad back, or testing out the latest equipment, this is a transparent look at the amateur game. No "pro" lessons here—just honest strategy, course management, and the pursuit of more consistent golf. E9: The Beltsville Test: Lessons from Old Gunpowder

In this episode, I’m taking you hole-by-hole through my recent round at Old Gunpowder Golf Course in Beltsville, Maryland. This round was a pivotal moment in my quest to drop my scoring average from 98.4 to 92, and I’m breaking down exactly how the course played. What we’re diving into today: Course Review: The Old Gunpowder Experience – I give my honest take on the current conditions in Beltsville. From the layout of the fairways to the speed of the greens, I’ll let you know what to expect if you're planning to tee it up here soon. The Home Field Advantage – Navigating a familiar layout and how local knowledge plays into course management when every stroke counts toward the season goal. Playing Through the Pain – An honest look at managing a round with a herniated disk and limited flexibility. It’s not about how hard you hit it; it’s about the rhythm and the results. Strategy Over Swing – Why I’m sticking to my "no-change" swing policy and focusing entirely on scoring, recovery, and making smart decisions under pressure. Whether you’re a local Maryland golfer or a mid-to-high handicapper anywhere else, this episode is about the grit and strategy required to play better golf without needing a "perfect" swing. E8: The Sligo Creek Golf Experience: Nerves, Gnats, and the Road to 92

What happens when a mid-handicapper with a herniated disk and limited flexibility takes on 18 holes? In this episode, I’m taking you on the bag with me at Sligo Creek Golf Course in Silver Spring, Maryland, for a double-loop 18-hole session. This wasn’t just a round of golf; it was a test of the Mid-Range Swing philosophy. I’m documenting my mission to move my scoring average from 98.4 down to 92 without changing my swing, and this round provided some major mental and physical hurdles. In this episode, I dive into: ✅The Mental Game: Dealing with the "Golf Anxiety" of having a group play right on my heels and the importance of not rushing your routine. ✅Environmental Distractions: Trying to stay focused while battling a relentless swarm of April gnats. ✅The Scorecard Reveal: How the Mid-Range strategy led to a 46 and a 42 for a total of 88—a massive milestone for the project. I am not a pro, a coach, or an instructor. I’m an amateur student of the game sharing the real, unpolished journey of playing golf in my late 50s. If you’ve ever felt pressured on the course or wondered if you can actually lower your score while managing physical limitations, this episode is for you. E7: The Journey to 92 Begins: My First Round of the 2026 Season!

I’ve set a big goal for myself this year: I’m working to lower my scoring average from a 98 down to a 92 by November. In this video at Enterprise Golf Course, I’m taking you along for the very first purposeful round of the season to see where my game stands and what I need to work on. I’m currently playing as a 25.2 handicap, and if I’m going to keep up with my weekend buddies and hit my targets, every stroke counts. In this video: ✅My first-round highlights (and some "learning moments"). ✅My funny moment on the first tee. ✅A first look at how the Bridgestone e6 is performing on the course. ✅Real-time course management for a mid-to-high handicapper. This is all part of the Mid-Range Swing project, where I’m documenting the ups, downs, and everything in between for the senior golfer looking to sharpen their game. What’s your scoring goal for this year? Let me know in the comments below! Join the Conversation: After you listen, head over tomy Facebook Group or the WordPress blog to share your thoughts. Ep6: The Great Golf Ball Challenge Part 4 Finale

The search is over. Today, I pick the one golf ball I’m sticking with for the entire season. After starting with four contenders—Titleist, Srixon, Callaway, and Bridgestone—I’ve officially narrowed it down to the final two. In this video, I’m taking the Bridgestone e6 and the Callaway Supersoft out for a head-to-head battle to see which one earns its spot in my bag. As a golfer pushing 60 with a herniated disk, I don't have the luxury of a 110mph swing. I need a ball that maximizes the speed I do have, stays straight, and feels good around the greens. My goal is to lower my average from 98.4 to 92—and consistency starts with playing the same ball every single round. In this final showdown: 🚩Driving for Distance & Accuracy: Which ball keeps me in the fairway despite my limited flexibility? 🚩The "Feel" Test: How do these two compare on approach shots and off the putter face? 🚩The Decision: I break down the data and the "gut feeling" to crown the winner. 🚩The Strategy: Why playing one ball consistently is a key part of my journey to sub-92 golf. I’m not a pro and I’m not here to teach you a new swing. I’m just documenting the reality of "mid-range" golf and showing how smart choices—like picking the right gear—can shave strokes off your game without changing your mechanics. What ball are you playing this year? Let me know in the comments!
