While maligned by critics of its own time, we find plenty to laugh at and enjoy in this silly spoof of our sassy swashbuckler. Plus, a brief look at George Hamilton the guy, and his dalliances with some international financial chicanery.     162. Zorroary: The Mark of Zorro (1919)

    Hola, senõr Salt here for more Zorroary, aka the Month of Zorro. Keigen also joins, but Lan is absent this round, probably doing caballero stuff. For our third installment of our Zorro series we’re going back to the very beginning of Zorro, and even before. We’re taking a look at Johnston McCulley’s 1919 book “The Mark of Zorro”. Originally titled The Curse of Capistrano, the book was retitled The Mark of Zorro after the smashing success of the first Zorro film. We get into some of the possible precursors to Zorro, including Robin Hood, as well as an even earlier Masked Rider, and The Scarlet Pimpernel, a character designed to drive Keigen crazy. The Mark of Zorro is a rollicking good time at the books, people say fun time at the movies so we can say fun time at the books, who cares. Plus, we wrap things up with a new game.     161. Zorroary: The Mark of Zorro (1940)

    We’re back with more movie Zorro for Zorroary. It’s not the first Zorro movie, not even the first Zorro talkie, so while it’s no first, The Mark of Zorro (1940) is a reel good time at el cine (“the cinema” for you non-Spanish speakers). Mark of Zorro was the 4th Zorro adaptation, 6th if you count the serials, so we also get into the notion of superhero fatigue, which we learn is a phenomenon nearly as old as el cine itself.
