    Detection of Lies

    Have you ever wished that you had the ability to accurately detect lies and uncover if someone is being dishonest? Most people lie occasionally. These lies are often trivial and essentially inconsequential—such as pretending to like a gift that you actually hated. But in other contexts, deception is more serious and can have harmful effects in areas like criminal justice. Hence, lying is better detected than ignored and tolerated. Unfortunately, it is difficult to detect lies accurately.

    As we start studying or even get introduced to the basics of Psychology, the names Freud, Skinner, and Wundt often top the list of most prominent early psychologists. I found myself wondering if all the early psychologists were men. it is estimated that in the early 1900s, one in 10 psychologists in the United States was a woman. Today, at the undergraduate and graduate levels, the proportion of women in psychology programs is much larger than men. However, in many universities there continues to be a lack of representation of women in the field’s top echelons. Nevertheless there were many women in psychology who made critical contributions and helped shape the development of the field of psychology.
