    Episode 5 - “Bias and Empathy”

    Dr. Helen Riess joins us in the lab for our Season Finale to explore the science of empathy. Dr. Riess is well known for her work with Empathetics - exploring the Neuroscience of Emotions and as an Associate Professor at Harvard University. In this episode, Dr. Riess speaks with Jen and Jamison about her ongoing research and how empathy can create the best approach for coaches and athletes alike.

    Episode 4 - Athlete Wellness Mindset

    With the help of Dr. Melanie Lang, Associate Director for the Child Protection and Safeguarding in Sport CPSS) at Edge Hill University we explore an “Athlete Wellness Mindset”. Melanie’s work in policy and program research looks at how sport practices can best protect young athletes, which gives us great insight into the realities of youth sport and how best we can focus on athlete wellness and empowerment. Tune in to hear Dr. Jennifer Fraser, Dr. Melanie Lang, and Jamison Schulz-Franco talk about how we can best provide athletes with the tools to succeed in sport, and beyond.

    Episode 3 - Performance Blocks and Abuse

    In this week's episode of Mindset Lab, Jamison and Dr. Fraser are joined by Jennifer Sey the Global Brand President of Levi's. Previously Jennifer was a seven-time member of the United States National Gymnastics Team and in 1986, Jennifer won the United States National Championships. In June 2020 Jennifer served as a producer on the Netflix Documentary "Athlete A" which details the experience of the journalists at The Indianapolis Star when they were breaking the story of Larry Nassar, the former US National Team doctor who was convicted of 10 counts of sexual assault between 2017 and 2018.

    Episode 2 - From Elite Athlete to Leadership Expert

    In the second episode of Mindset Lab, Jamison and Dr. Fraser are joined by Dr. Jennifer Walinga. Between 1984 and 1992 Dr. Walinga was a rower on the Canadian Nationa Team where she won a Gold Medal at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, a Bronze at the 1986 World Rowing Championships, and two Gold Medals at the 1991 World Rowing Championships. Following her career, Dr. Walinga entered academia and currently serves as a Professor in the School of Communication and Culture at Royal Roads University. Dr. Walinga's current research is focused on making sports less about the need to win and focusing more on learning life skills and experiences that will help people.

    With the help of Rus Smith, Coach, and Football Lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton, the Mindset Lab takes a look at how sport can be used for effective social change.  In this episode, we explore why sport matters, why an empathetic coaching technique matters, and how simple changes offer significant solutions.
