    On July 18, 2021 Destiny McClain was shot and killed while ordering at a food truck near 17th St. and McDowell in Phoenix. Her case has never been solved. McClain’s mother Brenda says she is still searching for answers, while turning grief into a mission to help others. “I was really in a dark space for the last five years. I wasn't showing what I was really going through behind closed doors,” Brenda Gilliam, McClain’s mother, said After losing her 23-year-old daughter, Gilliam says she is finally beginning to heal.

In 2026, the system experienced a sharp spike in deaths driven largely by accidental drug intoxications, medical neglect, and suicide. According to a report by The Arizona Republic, these death rates are disproportionately high and frequently exceed national averages.

The database famously helped authorities identify the Golden State Killer. Opt-In Policy: DNA profiles on the platform remain private and are primarily used for family-tree research. If you wish to assist law enforcement in identifying perpetrators of violent crimes or identifying unidentified human remains, you must explicitly opt-in to the Genetic Witness Program. GEDmatch is a free, third-party DNA comparison website where you upload raw DNA data files downloaded from major testing companies like Ancestry, 23andMe, and MyHeritage. Because it aggregates data across different testing platforms, it allows you to find relatives who tested with other companies and provides advanced genealogical tools.
