On the flip side, chronic low-grade dysbiosis can cause a range of symptoms, from fatigue to anxiety and depression.
Dr. Strand also shares some practical tips for evaluating your gut health, including looking for clues and triggers, such as low levels of CoQ10 and symptoms like tingling or itching.

139: How to Heal your Gut From Mold Toxicity w/ Kiran Krishnan
Did you know that only 10% of how our body works comes from genetics, while a whopping 90% comes from our microbiome?
That's right; our gut plays a central role in controlling our overall health and well-being, and any disruptions can have far-reaching consequences.
One of the most significant disruptors of our gut health is mold.
Today, we are joined by the Co-Founder of Microbiome Labs Kiran Krishnan, who takes us on a journey of discovery through the intricate workings of our body's microbiome.
So how important is the gut microbiome compared to other areas of our body?
Well, it's the most crucial control center for all of them, based on signals they receive from the gut. The largest percentage of microbes in your body lives in your gut, and they feed other areas of the body, including the brain. In fact, the largest portion of immune tissue is in your gut, and your microbiota translates to others how to respond.
But here's the kicker – mold is the most common way autoimmune is triggered. When mold lands on a piece of tissue, an isolated inflammatory response occurs, and innate immune responders burn everything down, including your own cells. Adaptable immune responses are slower but more methodical, targeting specific bugs. However, if your gut is dysfunctional and missing t-reg function, your system cannot identify your own body's tissue, leading to autoimmune triggers.
We call this the bystander effect – when your body starts attacking everything, including your own cells, leading to a host of chronic illnesses.
But fear not – our expert guest has some great mold protocols with different products to help keep your gut microbiome healthy and thriving.
So, sit back, relax, and get ready for a wild ride through the fascinating world of gut health and mold with Kiran Krishnan!
