Monaco Weekly News by NEWS.MC - ep 84

This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest headlines from across Monaco, beginning with diplomacy at the highest level. The Principality’s annual diplomatic conference brought together its ambassadors on April 9 to outline priorities for the year ahead. Led by Minister of External Relations Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, discussions focused on security, international attractiveness and the ongoing fight against financial crime. Environmental awareness was also in focus as His Serene Highness Prince Albert II joined students from Monaco and Beausoleil for the fifth Olympian Clean Up initiative. Around fifty participants took part in the April 9 event, collecting litter — with particular attention to cigarette waste — while promoting responsibility and sustainability through Olympic values. In the cultural sphere, Charlotte Casiraghi met readers at the Caroline Media Library, presenting her latest book La Fêlure. The literary event offered a more personal insight into her philosophical reflections on human fragility, drawing inspiration from major literary figures. Monaco’s sporting community was celebrated at the first-ever Code Sport Monaco awards evening. Bringing together around 130 guests, the event recognised individuals who contribute behind the scenes to the Principality’s vibrant sporting life. Sustainability and wellbeing came together at the Greenshift Festival, which concluded on April 11. Through yoga sessions, breathing workshops and sound therapy, the event highlighted the connection between personal balance and environmental engagement. On the courts, the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters once again delivered world-class tennis, with the 119th edition wrapping up on April 12. The tournament reaffirmed Monaco’s status as a key destination on the international ATP circuit, combining elite competition with a unique Riviera atmosphere. In team sport, AS Monaco Natation made history by securing the French National 1 title after a 14–12 victory over Marseille. The triumph caps a dominant season and marks a major milestone for water polo in the Principality. Infrastructure developments also made headlines with the inauguration of the expanded Terminal 2 at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. Increasing capacity to 18 million passengers annually, the upgrade strengthens connectivity for Monaco and the wider region. Healthcare innovation continues at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre, where a new mother-and-child unit has been introduced. Designed around a “zero separation” approach, the facility allows parents and newborns to remain together throughout their stay, prioritising both medical care and emotional wellbeing. Monaco’s position as a fashion hub was underlined with the opening of its 14th Fashion Week. Featuring designers from across the globe, the event highlights innovation, sustainability and emerging talent within the industry. On the international stage, Monaco reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with Senegal during an official visit led by Isabelle Berro-Amadeï. The trip builds on more than two decades of cooperation and aims to strengthen development initiatives aligned with Senegal’s national priorities. Closer to home, the Principality marked each new life with its “One Birth, One Tree” initiative. A ceremony held near Casino Square celebrated the 732 births recorded in 2025, symbolised by the planting of a new tree as part of Monaco’s ongoing environmental commitment. This week, NEWS.MC TV is joined by Louise Grether, Director of Sotheby’s Monaco and President of Monaco Art Week. In an exclusive interview, she shares insights into the Principality’s evolving art scene, the importance of Monaco Art Week, and the role of the market in shaping cultural influence on the international stage.
