Life is like a... roll of toilet paper? It sure is, according to Missy Buchanan. She is an accomplished author and speaker, bringing her message of encouragement to older adults wherever she goes. This conversation is no different; Missy wants to clue us into the struggles and blessings of living our later years. She joined our very own Josh Fitzpatrick for a More Than Sunday first - a LIVE interview in front of a LIVE studio audience. It's Not All "Joyful, Joyful" and "Jingle Bells" - Dr. Scot Bontrager

It's Not All "Joyful, Joyful" and "Jingle Bells" - Dr. Scot Bontrager

Thanksgiving, Christmas... It's the most wonderful time of the year! Right? While it certainly is for some, it most certainly is not for others. The holidays have a way of deepening whatever emotional state you are in; the joys are even more joyful, but the sorrows can reach new lows. For those experiencing any sort of grief, especially this time of the year, we want you to know that you are seen and you are loved. Dr. Scot Bontrager, a member of the Caring Team here at First United Methodist Church Richardson, feels a calling to share this message. He believes it is absolutely essential to acknowledge whatever emotional state you are bringing to the holidays, and be honest about it - with people you trust, and with God. This episode is for anyone who is walking in grief, or didn't know what to say to someone else confessing their own.

"The Talk" - Cheryl and Rod Bishop

"The Talk" - Cheryl and Rod Bishop

As the American hip-hop trio Salt-n-Pepa put it way back in 1990, let's talk about sex. More specifically, let's talk about talking about sex. Broaching such conversations with our kids can be awkward and challenging, but is an absolutely essential part of parenting. Cheryl and Rod Bishop saw this necessity long ago, and have spent nearly the last 30 years talking to pre-teens, teenagers, and their parents about human sexuality. They share the wisdom they've gleaned from interacting with students in their classes, as well as stories from raising their own two children. While this conversation may not be suitable for all ages, it's one you won't want to miss.

The Student Section - A Panel Discussion With Six Students From FUMCR

The Student Section - A Panel Discussion With Six Students From FUMCR

"Kids these days..."  It's a time-honored tradition for adults (former teenagers) to cast aspersions on the youth of the day (current teenagers), without giving much consideration to how things have changed or the new challenges they face. We thought it appropriate to let these students speak for themselves. What is it like to be a student today? What struggles do you encounter? What are your hopes for your generation? These brave students are here to share their firsthand experiences; it's up to the rest of us to listen.
