Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol Interview: Bangers on an 8-String, Ca$h Grab, and Writing Hooks

📩 Read the newsletter: https://mostlyyelling.substack.com/  🎙️ Listen to the podcast: https://gmkennelty.podbean.com/ 🍔 Check out Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol here: https://rickshawbilliesburgerpatrol.bandcamp.com/album/ca-h-grab I got into Austin rock trio Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol with their Big Dumb Riffs record, and I've had so many questions since then. Why the 8-strings? How do they write such short songs that're simple, effective bangers? What the hell is a Rickshaw Billie's Burger Patrol anyway? Now I've got the answers and a little insight into their latest record, Ca$h Grab – whose name also has an interesting story behind it!

Jason spoke about how he decied to do the documentary, what he learned along the way, and offered a really interesting perspective on what it means to preserve media. The film features Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, Brant Bjork, Nick Oliveri and others, and covers the Coachella Valley community that produced Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and Fu Manchu. It’s been unavailable since its original distribution deal expired in 2020. The 10th Anniversary Special Edition – out November 20 – adds new material on Black Flag’s 1981 Palm Springs show, including audio and photographs.

This one’s a two-parter – the first covers the upcoming Testament record and how it’s even more aggressive than Para Bellum, Testament’s legendary drummers over the years, Chuck’s lyrical writing partners, and 30 years since Chuck tried out for Sepultura after Max Cavalera left! The second portion is all about Chuck’s upcoming book Holding My Breath: The Two Testaments of Chuck Billy.

We also touched on our collective love of Edge Of Sanity, the magic that is Dan Swanö (and his guest spot on the record), Chris’ history in heavy music, and what we’ve both been listening to lately.
