    Hidden in the Ordinary

Have you ever had a moment when you looked back and realized God had been working the whole time? But at the time, you just couldn't see it. This Sunday, we're continuing our Ruth series, Finding God in the Ordinary. We'll find a young widow going to work in a field on an ordinary morning, but she walks into a moment that will change everything. No miracles, no dramatic signs; just faithful presence meeting quiet providence. If you're in a season that feels unremarkable, routine, or like God has gone silent, this message is for you. Series: Ruth: Finding God in the ordinary Speaker: Jeremy Norton Scripture: Ruth 2:1–17 Timestamps 00:00 - Imagine you’re at a high school or college reunion 05:50 - There’s an important phrase in verse 3 06:51 - But let’s not get ahead of ourselves 07:42 - There’s a temptation to wait for God to show up in a way we’ll recognize 08:22 - Before we continue, I’d like to jump back to chapter 1 09:46 - Now, let’s talk about this landowner, Boaz 10:45 - Scrolling down to verse 5, Boaz noticed Ruth gleaning in the field 12:07 - So, the obvious next question is, why IS Boaz doing this? 13:32 - Now, gleaning has been mentioned a lot in other the first and second chapters of Ruth 15:39 - Coming back to Boaz, he decides to take this charitable law one step further 16:53 - The thread that runs throughout Ruth’s story is that she takes the next faithful step, one ordinary moment at a time 17:43 - You might be living in a season that feels unremarkable 19:22 - Before we close our today’s message, I’d like to come back to Boaz one last time 20:34 - Jesus was sent by God to deal with our sin completely 22:18 - Prayer 23:02 - Updates 29:23 - Connecting questions #Jesus #JesusChrist #Lord #God #Hidden #Ordinary #Ruth #Boaz Support the show

    Some Hard Paths We Choose

Ruth: Finding God in the ordinary Some of the hardest decisions we make aren't the reckless ones; they're the ones that made complete sense at the time. This Sunday, we open the book of Ruth, a story set in one of the darkest seasons in Israel's history. We meet a man who considered his options, chose the obvious one, and led his family in the wrong direction without knowing it. We also meet a woman who made one of the most remarkable turns in the entire Bible. If you've ever made a choice that seemed completely reasonable and still cost you more than you expected, this message is for you. Because the obvious choice can still be the wrong one, and it's never too late to change direction! Series: Ruth: Finding God in the ordinary Speaker: Jeremy Norton Scripture: Ruth 1:1–18 Timestamps 00:00 - Have you ever made a decision that cost you, even though it wasn’t a reckless decision? 04:48 - The book of Ruth opens during a challenging time in Israel’s history known as the Judges 07:39 - Let’s pause to walk through some of the unstated details 10:21 - Look at verse 6 12:26 - And Ruth foreshadows this through her commitment to Naomi 13:34 - As we reflect on this contrast of these two choices, it’s striking how ordinary Elimelech’s mistake was 15:10 - Because Ruth’s choice is a picture of what saving faith looks like 16:03 - So, what kind of choices are you facing the consequences of in this season? 17:25 - Elimelech’s move made sense, and it just cost him everything 18:11 - Prayer 18:49 - Updates 19:54 - Connecting Questions #mountainviewchurch #jesus #trustgod #faithjourney #jesuschrist #ruth #ordinary Support the show

Discerning Heart – Live with God’s Wisdom

EMOTIONS: Getting a Grip of Your Heart & Mind We all want to make better decisions, but most of us are still reacting on impulse and wondering why the same patterns keep repeating. This Sunday at Mountainview Church, we wrap up our Emotions series with a message on the Discerning Heart. We'll look at what it actually takes to build the kind of heart that stays steady when life gets hard, filters emotions through truth instead of impulse, and grows wiser with every obedient decision. Drawing from the wisdom literature of the Old Testament, this message is practical, grounded, and built for real life. Whether you're recovering from a hard season or want to stop reacting and start responding, this one is for you. Join us this Sunday and bring someone who could use a little more wisdom in their life. Series: EMOTIONS: Getting a Grip of Your Heart & Mind Speaker: Jeremy Norton Scripture: Proverbs 4:20-27 Timestamps 00:00 - If you’ve ever had a significant injury, you know that recovery can be a mental battle as much as a physical one. 04:36 - What does a season of spiritual recovery and training look like? 07:13 - Accepting God’s instruction is the starting point, but how does that play out in day-to-day life? 08:16 - Discernment grows by trusting God’s faithfulness 10:15 - Let’s move into the final passage to discover the long-term impacts of the discerning heart. 10:58 - Discernment matures by seeking God’s wisdom 12:58 - Here’s the tension in everything we’ve looked at today 13:41 - That work begins with His Son, Jesus 16:35 - We started today with a simple picture 17:36 - Prayer 18:21 - Updates 20:36 - Connection Questions 21:36 - Come back next week! #Jesus #JesusChrist #God #Lord #Emotions #Discerning #Heart #Wisdom Support the show
