Better Than You Could Write It

Ruth: Finding God in the ordinary We've spent five weeks watching ordinary people make faithful choices in hard seasons. All the while, God was quietly at work behind the scenes. This Sunday, we close out Ruth's story, which turns out better than anyone could have expected. A mourning woman restored, a foreign widow welcomed, and a family line that reaches all the way to Jesus. If your story feels unfinished, painful, or stuck somewhere in the middle, God is still working. We'll discover God in the ordinary one more time, then gather around the communion table together. Redemption is where the story was always heading. Series: Ruth: Finding God in the Ordinary Speaker: Jeremy Norton Scripture: Ruth 4:13–22 Timestamps 00:00 - How am I ever going to get through this? 03:39 - To unpack this passage, we need to highlight the first and last verses of this passage 05:08 - There’s a lesson for us in every Scripture that contains a genealogy 06:20 - This is important because most of us are living somewhere in the middle of our story 07:16 - In chapter four, after Ruth gives birth to a son, the women of Bethlehem gather around Naomi 09:46 - Have you lived long enough to have a Naomi moment? 11:29 - Let’s come back to our previous discussion on genealogies 13:08 - Don’t miss that Matthew intentionally wrote Ruth’s name in the genealogy of Christ 15:22 - These words apply just as much today as they did then 16:14 - Prayer 17:38 - Communion 21:54 - Updates 26:59 - Connecting Questions #faith #jesus #faithjourney #mountainviewchurch #japan #boaz #ruth #ruthandnaomi Support the show

    Do the Next Right Thing

Ruth: Finding God in the ordinary Most of us know what we should do, but we're just waiting for a better moment. We're waiting for the perfect moment or maybe a sign from God, but what if it never comes? This week in Ruth 4, we watch Boaz get up in the morning, call a meeting, and do what faithfulness asked of him. He didn't hesitate or delay what he knew needed to happen. Maybe there's a decision you've been avoiding. Sometimes it takes more faith to walk the line than wait for a sign. Join us this Sunday as we look at what it really means to do the next right thing. Series: Ruth: Finding God in the ordinary Speaker: Jeremy Norton Scripture: Ruth 4:1–12 Timestamps 00:00 - Think about the next big decision you have to make 06:44 - We’ve been walking through this story for five weeks now 07:32 - In verse 1, we read… 08:04 - Notice how fast the text moves 08:41 - You might be wondering, “Why the city gate?” 09:23 - So, he waits at the gate for his relative 11:00 - Picking the story back up, ten elders are called to observe the redemption deal that Boaz is about to offer 12:08 - Next, Boaz proceeds to formalize transaction in front of the ten elders 14:37 - This is a story of faithfulness and follow-through 15:54 - The role of Kinsman-Redeemer required three things: 17:01 - God would send His Son, Jesus, to be the final Kinsman-Redeemer 19:00 - We started this message on the topic of indecision 20:34 - I have a challenge for you 21:41 - Both Boaz and Jesus trusted God for the outcome 22:05 - Prayer 22:39 - Updates 25:30 - Connecting Questions 26:16 - Come back next week! #scripture #jesus #jesuschrist #faithjourney #mountainviewchurch #ruth #ruthandnaomi #boaz Support the show
