B Side: Come usher in Part VII of Sometimes a Saint & Sometimes A Sinner. We’ll tread between the two worlds with a rich collection of old spirituals, murder ballads, and the like. It is said that a saint is nothing more than a sinner revised and edited. Are the two one and the same? One thing is for sure: heaps of fine music have been created in the human drama of good and evil. 

In this multi-part series, we explore audio field recordings made at Rainbow Gatherings around the world. In this episode, Part X, we’ll be featuring recordings made at the 2023 New Hampshire Annual Rainbow Gathering, located in the White Mountain National Forest near the town of Berlin.

In this audio ethnography undertaken during a two-week stay (December 2015) in Myanmar, we invite listeners to join us on a sound walk through Mandalay, the second largest city and former royal capital, as well as Bagan, an ancient city and archeological area southwest of Mandalay on the eastern banks of the Ayeyarwady River. The field recordings presented in this audio ethnography have not been “staged,” nor aurally enhanced post-production. Instead, this aural ethnography is layered in one continuous thread.
