After some personal challenges Naseem Afsar Williams launched Afsar Williams Solicitors on 1 July 2022 specialising in Family Law, Immigration & Asylum, Business Immigration and Commercial Property. She sat her bar exams in Buffalo, New York, a mother, a wife and a business owner of a law firm that is proudly majority woman-led and ethnically diverse, with branches in Birmingham (Newhall Street) and Telford With deen and compassion close to her heart she transfers these values into everyday life as well as dealing with clients. In this episode we discuss her heart-warming journey to starting her own law practice, the challenges SMEs face with immigration and sponsorship and how other entrepreneurs should believe in themselves.

Arfah is a lifelong community builder and advocates for diversity and inclusion. She is the co-founder of Muslamaic Makers, a community that helps the next generation of Muslim changemakers level up across the tech industry and beyond and co-founder of Muslim Tech Fest a global festival celebrating Muslim Excellence with sold out events in Londonn and San Francisico. Arfah’s has vast experience in the private and public sector. For the UK Government, she built an internal community of 1,500+ product and delivery managers, built and launched the first Number 10 Innovation fellowship program to get senior talent into government, and built out the is AI community in healthcare in NHSx. She also lead the ImpactVC Community for Big Society Capital. She is a 2017 fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust where she conducted research exploring Muslim Women in Technology in USA, UAE and Pakistan where she vlogged her travels and brought back her expertise to help businesses. She was part of the Ada Ventures Angels programme to invest in underrepresented talent. Muslamic Makers was recently listed as The 100 Most Innovative Global Muslim Startups to Watch. Arfah is a multiple award winner as top 30 London Tech Week Changemaker in 2018, Top 20 women in the software power list in 2021 by Google for Startups and Makers and Top 11 most influential women in tech by Computer Weekly in 2023. Episode 4: Prof. Husna Ahmad OBE

Prof Husna Ahmad OBE is the CEO of Global One 2015 which is a faith based International NGO focussed on women. She is an Honorary Professor in Practice at the Computer Science Department of UCL, London University. She is also an Associate Professor at the Department of Arts and Law at the University of Birmingham. Prof Ahmad has been appointed the Chair of the Steering Committee of UNEP’s Faith for Earth Initiative. She is also a member of the Interfaith Women’s Council of UNEP. She is a member of the Multi faith Advisory Council to the UN Inter-agency Task Force on Religion and Development. Prof. Ahmad sits on the Steering Committee of The World Bank’s Moral Imperative Initiative. She is an international speaker, author and thought leader, focusing particularly on faith, gender, environment and peacebuilding. She is the Secretary General of the World Muslim Leadership Forum and the Coordinator for the Alliance of NGOs and CSOs for South-South Cooperation [ANSSC] which works in collaboration with the UN office of South South Cooperation. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year’s Honours list in 2010 for her services to disadvantaged people for work promoting social justice with disadvantaged communities.

But just two months in, she was legally pursued by HelloFresh, leading to a 2.5-year legal battle that she ultimately lost on paper. What she didn’t lose was her spirit, her purpose, or her drive to make a lasting impact. From that experience, It’s Halal was born—a platform dedicated to clean, tayyab eating, rooted in Islamic principles and community care. In response to rising rates of cardiovascular disease and diabetes in the Muslim community, she has also launched a dedicated Diabetes-Friendly Meal Kit, helping individuals eat consciously while still enjoying delicious, halal food. Her mission is simple but powerful: With a background in food banks since 2009, Saima continues to inspire change, challenging fast food norms and helping her community rediscover the joy and dignity of healthy cooking.
