    My True Identity: How Jessica Morris Overcame A Painful Childhood

    Send us a text Pat Domangue interviews Jessica Morris author of Dewdrops: Morning Meditations to Cultivate Faith, Love, and Service and Higher Powered: One Woman’s Journey of Personal Eschatolgy. Higher Powered was based on her master’s thesis, Personal Eschatology: The End of My World as I know It.    Jessica’s story corresponds with our current My True Identity Series and our past, Women Of The Bible Series.  Jessica carried a wrong identity of “I am a mistake” based on the unhealthy and unholy environment she was raised in, harmful words spoken to her, and painful things that happened to her while living as a daughter of an alcoholic minister. Her story also parallels with Tamar from Genesis 38:6-28. Tamar and Jessica were not protected or honored by the people God placed in their life to care for them. Eventually, their brokenness and unprotected-ness would force them in directions that were not their best decisions.    But God transformed Jessica’s life, story, and identity.     My True Identity: A Bad Past Can Keep Us Identifying As Unforgiven Far Too Long

    Send us a text Today, Licensed professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist, Taylor Draughn  joins Pat to discuss the identity of Unforgiven which is common for those of us with a “bad past” to carry with us into our new life as a Christian. Pat shares from her journey with Jesus and believing she was unforgiven for the first several years after her initial salvation. She now recognizes that she didn’t understand grace and how powerful and complete Jesus’ forgiveness was and still is. Taylor shares from her perspective and expertise as a counselor about how she sees this issue affect so many women in her practice.   In this episode, not only do we discuss the problems and issues for those who are in Christ to continue to identify as Unforgiven. Pat Domangue, Bible Study Author and Women’s Ministry Leader teams up with Taylor Draughn, a licensed professional counselor, and Marriage and Family Therapist to address wrong ways we identify ourselves. Discover ways to detect wrong thinking and labels we might be wearing that do not line up with who we are in Christ.    Today we take a look into the woman at the well in John 4 and see how she could have easily identified with the “I am a failure” mindset and how we, as women often allow failures in our life to give us a similar mindset and identity.  Divorce can make us feel like a failure and especially if we are in the Christian community. Parenting, especially mothering, can cause women to struggle with feelings of failure that can lead to a "I am a failure" identity.
