Narelle was a member of Victoria Police for 27 years,15 of which were as a Detective with squads including Child Exploitation, Missing Persons (Homicide) & Sexual Crimes. Narelle was exposed to unimaginable grief & trauma but also witnessed incredible strength & resilience from those affected by crime. In 2012 Narelle's career came to an unexpected sudden end when she was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Injury and was never able to return to Policing. In her recovery, she drew on the strength & resilience she'd witnessed in her career & reinvented herself as a keynote speaker & podcaster.     Dr Claire Pasvolsky - From a true-crime podcast to 'The Policewoman' true-crime documentary

    Dr Claire Pasvolsky has a PhD in Media & Communications in Screenwriting & did her thesis on Stalking. Today, Claire takes us through how she went from hearing a true-crime podcast whilst doing the dishes at home, to writing/producing & directing with her husband Steve, a documentary following the 27yr career of a Policewoman (yes folks, that's me!!) who's career ended abruptly after being diagnosed with PTSD. Claire has managed to tell this story with compassion & incredible insight whilst trying to navigate the fine line of how much detail she could reveal & re-tell without traumatising the audience. With a strong background in drama, she's managed to produce a compelling documentary that will take the audience on a rollercoaster of emotions & walk away with a rare insight into the reality of being a first responder.     Melissa Smith - How psych hospital helped heal a broken Policewoman

    Melissa had only ever wanted to be a Policewoman & joined virtually the minute she was old enough (18yr 6 months) & loved the fulfilment & satisfaction she gained from her work. And then one day, she recalls "my head broke" & she came crashing down, having no idea how mentally unwell she was. A hospital psych said one time, "You were only injured because you were brave" & it changed her whole mindset because until then, she'd felt she was 'weak' for becoming unwell.     Dr. Celine van Golde - how one word can skew the memory of a witness

    Dr Celine van Golde is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on the reliability of eyewitness memory in children & adults, specifically how interviewing techniques in forensic settings such as those used by Police, lawyers & judges, can affect memory accuracy. She lectures within the NSW Police Child Abuse Training Program as well as advising judges & lawyers on issues related to eyewitness memory.     Justyn Backhouse - Saving others was easier than saving himself

    WARNING - THIS EPISODE DISCUSSES SUICIDE Justyn loved the majority of his 25yr NSW Police career but there were some incidents which had a marked effect on him & which resulted in him being diagnosed with PTSD. Justyn wasn't sure what was wrong but felt something was - his panic attacks became more prevalent & he began to dread what job or scene might come up next. He knew by discussing his fears he'd more than likely be 'grounded' from the Airwing but in the end he realised he was not only putting himself in danger, but his colleagues also.     Grace's Place - Anita Cobby's legacy

    Kate Baker - Finding kindness in a sometimes unkind world

    Kate was a leader for much of her 23yr career in NSW Police where decisions she made on a daily basis could mean the difference between someone surviving or dying.
