It’s Coming for Your Family: The Youth Sports Epidemic

Podcast Description Youth sports are supposed to be good for our kids. They build character, teach competition, create friendships, and—most importantly—should be fun. But what happens when sports begin consuming the time and attention that should belong to our families? In this episode of the Walking Narrow Podcast, we take an honest look at the youth sports epidemic and the growing pressure to do more: more practices, more games, more travel teams, more camps, more private coaching. What starts as a good opportunity for our kids can slowly become an all-consuming commitment that leaves families with less time around the dinner table, less time together, and less room for the things that matter most. We explore why parents get caught up in it—from living vicariously through our kids to fear of missing out—and ask some uncomfortable questions: Are our priorities actually reflected in how we spend our time? What are we giving up for sports? Are we leading our families, or are our kids and their activities setting the agenda? Sports aren't the enemy. But as men and fathers, we have a responsibility to recognize when something good has become too much. Because our kids won't remember every practice or tournament. And ultimately, we're not raising them to be great athletes. We're raising them to become good, godly, productive adults. The question is: Are we protecting the time we have with them to help make that happen?
