    NEWSWAVE - The Butterfly Effect

Join our reporter Tom Howe for NEWSWAVE, your weekly rundown of the top stories happening across St Austell and surrounding areas. In the latest episode, George Elworthy from Cornwall Hospice joins us to discuss the charity’s new Fit for Future project - a long-term investment to ensure hospice care in Cornwall can continue meeting needs of patients and families for years to come. We check back in with local author Paula Rooney to get inside her latest travel book, inspired by a five-week solo journey across Morocco, and her passion for travel writing. We dive into this year’s Big Butterfly Count with Sue Allen from the Cornish Branch of Butterfly Conservation who explains the importance of butterflies and reflects on changing populations in 2026. Jason and Gwen Bradby are back from Coeliac UK, discussing the growth of new Local Meet Ups in the St Austell area, with a second Cornish town soon to come onboard and offer support for people living gluten free. As well as that, we’ll stop by our local Age UK St Austell Community Hub to meet two pillars of their team, Mandine King and Chris East, who detail their ongoing drive for donations and volunteers to support and expand their vital services. And we learn how a small meditation group has grown from one man's living room into a thriving community that now meets every Monday evening at St Austell's Quaker Meeting House with organiser, Jacob Willbourne.
