Mental Load of the Holidays
All I want for Christmas is…
A balanced holiday load. Right, mamas?
In a 2006 study by the American Psychological Association it was found that “holiday stress has a particular impact on women, who take charge of many of the holiday celebrations, particularly the tasks related to preparing meals and decorating the home.”
While the research in this particular article was done 15+ years ago, the findings still ring true today.
In this week’s episode, women’s health expert and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Marcy Crouch and motherhood wellness and mental health expert Alyson Hempsey discuss some ways in which we can balance the load of the holidays with our partners.
Do you find that you take on most of the responsibilities around the holidays? We want to know!

Pelvic Floor + Pregnancy: What's What
In this week’s episode, women’s health expert and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Marcy Crouch does a deep dive into how our pelvic floor supports us during pregnancy. And, since Alyson Hempsey is now in her third trimester, she spares no details when it comes to everything you need to know about pelvic floor health!
There are a few different functions of our pelvic floor, but one of the main ones is to support us (that’s why we refer to it as the“floor of the core”). When we add on a pregnancy, the weight of the baby, a placenta, increase of body mass, fluid and blood volume, the load and demand on the group of muscles that make up our pelvic floor grows exponentially over the course of 9 months. This is when common concerns like leaking and prolapse come up (and remember, common does not mean normal).
If you are pregnant, plan to be, are recently postpartum, or are experiencing any pelvic floor issues, you do not want to miss out on this week’s episode!

Not Your Mothers Bag, Baby!
When it comes to parenting, have you ever thought about ways you can do things differently than your own parents might have? We definitely have, and in this week’s episode you get a front row seat into our childhood upbringings and how we are trying to shift the generational cycles as we parent our own kids.
Motherhood wellness expert Alyson Hempsey gives us the definition of generational cycles (and generational trauma) and talks about how the ways we were treated as children manifest into our own parenting techniques decades later. Women’s health expert and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Marcy Crouch shares some memories she has of her own childhood and how they have shaped her as a mom.
In this episode we learn that two of the biggest ways generational cycles are perpetuated are through avoidance and overcompensation (ie. avoiding conflict or not talking about strong feelings), and Alyson shares with us some tools we can use to reflect on our motherhood journeys as we work to break these cycles.
Breaking generational cycles involves shifting our own behavioral responses and communication styles. So, how do we break the cycle? Well, you’re going to have to tune in to find out.

Advanced Maternal Age
Women’s health expert and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Marcy Crouch has the “Pelvic Floor” once again, along with motherhood wellness expert Alyson Hempsey, as she does a deep dive into all things AMA (Advanced Maternal Age).
When a woman becomes pregnant after 35, she is considered to be of advanced maternal age. But, what exactly does that even mean? What are some of the increased risks associated with pregnancy and women over the age of 35. Does your prenatal care have to change, and if so, how?
Marcy shares her own experience as a woman of advanced maternal age when she was pregnant at 35, and Alyson explains how the idea that “the clock is ticking” can affect a woman's mental health.
Did you know that pregnant women over the age of 35 are considered “geriatric”? If you had a pregnancy after 35, we’d love to hear your experience!

The Great (Mom) Resignation
In today’s episode, motherhood wellness expert Alyson Hempsey does a deep dive into the term, “The Great Resignation” along with women’s health expert and pelvic floor physical therapist Dr. Marcy Crouch. Together they talk about what the term means and how it has specifically affected mothers across the United States.
A total of 48 million people quit their jobs in 2021 according to EdSmart. For mothers especially, balancing work and raising children has always been difficult; however, the pandemic brought it to new heights and presented a whole new set of complexities.
In this episode, we talk about the various reasons why mothers left the workforce, including lack of child care, managing work from home, and limited employer support. Let’s face it, simply being a mom is a full-time job, and if the pandemic taught us anything it’s that mothers are essential.
The fact of the matter is, there needs to be better options to support working moms if we want to continue to see them in the workplace. Tune in to this week’s episode to hear more.

First time and all moms must listen!
As a first time mom it’s been hard to balance everything especially with how overwhelming social media can be. I have only listened to 3 episodes and they have helped me mentally so much! Highly recommend giving this a listen. It’ll give all moms a sense that they aren’t the only ones to go through what they are going through!
Could not recommend more!!!
My friend introduced me to this podcast a few episodes in and I am beyond hooked. I seriously get upset when I am driving to work and the new episode doesn’t show up in my library Wednesday mornings. Marcy and Allison offer so much guidance, humor and comradery! Being a new mom whose journey to pregnancy was not an easy one I feel so supported and validated by the community they have created. Could not recommend more!!
Every mom should listen
I love these ladies! They cover real issues (and solutions) that don’t get talked about enough and are very entertaining. I feel like I’m hanging out with my very smart yet chill friends and learning something new every week. I find myself sharing episodes with all my girlfriends - pregnant, postpartum, no kids at all - and look forward to their podcast every week. Thank you for doing what you do!
