    ep. 225 - Graham Platner: Autopsy of a Failure

    There was something unique I noticed about Platner’s campaign.  Unlike Mamdani with his polished, quick and highly produced videos, Platner would speak into a front facing camera with no cuts to say he is sorry. Each time he had to address some past scandal, his drinking, his womanizing, his Nazi tattoo, he would look into his camera, apologize, and his poll numbers would go up. Why?  I realized that it was this front facing confession of his sins that put us in the position of a priest. Platner, instead of denying or doing the corporate dem meaningless word salad, was saying he was wrong and was asking for forgiveness. And We were on the receiving end of his apology and we were given the power to grant him grace.  But we are not priests. We are Americans. The blood is on our hands. Platner is just a mirror. He is the avatar of our guilt, of our sins. If a man who was a soldier in a criminal war, a man who was an abusive drunk toward women, a man who served the mercenary machine and fed it blood can be redeemed, then maybe there is hope for us all. Because deep down I believe that Americans know we are living wrong.  To discuss this further, I am joined by journalist Jasper Craven who recently interviewed Graham Platner in the New Yorker. Craven has written extensively about the culture and psychology of American veterans, most notably in his excellent new book, God Forgives, Brothers Don't, which we will be doing a book club on the very near future, so if you haven’t got yourself a copy, make sure you do.  As always, thank you thank you for your continued support. That's why they need to implement more facial recognition technology at the self-check outs. They will tell you that American companies lost more than $112 billion to shoplifting in 2022 alone.  This is a lie.  There is a lot of money to be made telling and selling the idea that corporations are victims.  Slate reporter Alex Sammon's latest piece dives into the world of anti-shoplifting technology and the multibillion dollar industry behind it.     No country suffers more from the American need for ancestral heritage than Ireland. Ireland is full of hyphenated Americans who are looking for some kind of belonging because they do not have it in America. The American obsession with heritage is a kind of subconscious self-loathing. It is not enough to be American. It is not enough to have it all. No, we must be Irish, or Italian or EUROPEAN, even though we have no real relationship to those places. We gave that all up when we entered the diaspora.  So what do the Irish think of "Irish-Americans?"     ep. 221 - One Trillion Reasons to Hate Elon Musk

    We will never colonize space.  Smug folks love to look down on drunks who play the lottery.  "The odds are a million to one! You'll never win! Better to save your money and put it towards something real, ya bum!"  The math of a drunk playing scratch-offs is far superior to those who tell you we will "bring the light of consciousness to the stars." Our bodies can never permanently leave this earth . And yet, this is the contract Elon Musk has made with the global economy.  Space X's $2.7 trillion valuation is premised on Musk colonizing Mars with one million human inhabitants. Maybe he will nuke the brains of one million Neuralink users and imprison them on the planet and fulfill his fiduciary obligations, but you'd be better off putting all your money into a POWERBALL lottery ticket.  Why do people continue to believe in Musk? What happens when this promise that holds the global economy hostage fails to come to fruition?  Fellow Musk-hater, Jacob Silverman, joins the show once again to gawk in horror at the existence of the world's richest man.

    ep. 220 - Disclosure: Gay?

    Stephen Spielberg's Disclosure Day might be one of the worst movies of the 21st century.  What does this mean for the UFO community? How could they have fumbled such a timely story? If you didn't believe in aliens already, this movie might vindicate that. If you do believe in aliens, this movie might have you questioning why you believed in the first place.  Brother Isaac is joined by his friend and true believer, Ian, to discuss this massive disappointment.

    Is it OK to watch the World Cup?  This is the first time in history that a nation hosting the the FIFA event is at war with another participating country.  The United States is somehow a worse than Qatar. Corruption is rampant. Prices are exorbitantly gouged. Visiting players are being treated like criminals.  How can I maintain my principles and still watch the beautiful game?  To figure out how, I am joined by Klonny (@parapowermapping) to talk about sports and why they cannot be abandoned.

    ep. 218 - Texas Vs. Florida: Where Is the Center of America? feat. Jake Rhodes of P*****o Time

    Sometimes I feel like I am at the center of the world. I’m not talking about that main character energy nonsense. I mean that living in Florida makes me feel l like I am close to beating heart of the evil empire. Our nefarious overlords practice on Florida first: Data centers, detention centers, etc. Sometimes it feels like Florida is the most American state in the country.  But maybe I’m biased.  There is one other state that rivals Florida’s centrality: Texas.
