Customer Reviews
The best video game review podcast
This show hits a perfect balance of objective review and enjoyable to listen to commentary. The hosts are insightful and funny and their reviews are backed up by facts without becoming devoid of feelings.
This is my all time favorite podcast and I listen to a lot of podcasts. (About 35-50k minutes of podcasts a year for the last 4 years). An absolute must listen if you enjoy retro video games.
PS: Except their Super Metroid episode. It was the first episode one I listened to and I almost dropped them entirely afterwards. Not because one of the hosts didn’t like it, that’s fine, but almost every single suggestion they had to change it would have made it substantially worse and you could tell one of the hosts let his expectations influence his view and missed the point of the game. This episode is the one smudge on an otherwise phenomenal record.
Used to be great
I hate having to post some thing so negative, but I don't understand the new format of the show. When Nostalgia Goggles used to pop up in my feed, a game like "Super Castlevania" was the subject, and I couldn't wait to listen. Now it's "Why does asparagus make pee stink?". I have really loved what these guys have done in the past, but it was already risking being a little too tangential in its discussions, and now it seems like they've gone overboard. I used to tune in to listen to discussions of my favorite video games, and now it's just two guys spitballing for an hour? They both seem like genuinely good guys, this just isn't what I'm interested in listening to.
Still entertaining, but show’s changing format is dissapointing
I have enjoyed listening to this show for years, and the hosts’ chemistry, smart dialogue, and interesting takes on video games has always been why I listen. However, over the last year the format has slowly been changing to episodes less focused on a single old video game, or mini science-based episodes.
I realize this is probably the hosts wanting to get time back for their personal lives, and power to them, but the result is the show has sacrificed on what drew me originally to it.
