Cat Marx | Purpose to Your Pain

Recorded: August 5, 2022 Episode Summary: In this deeply personal episode, I had the privilege of chatting with Cat Kirk as she shared her incredible journey. From growing up with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and navigating tough family dynamics to becoming a young widow and raising three daughters, Cat’s story is a testament to resilience, faith, and self-love. We talked about the reality of how unhealed trauma can spill into every part of life and how Cat found the strength to break free from that cycle. She opened up about parenting through challenges, buying her first home, and leaning into her faith even when life seemed to be working against her. One of the most powerful moments was when she explained how therapy and affirmations helped her rebuild her relationship with herself and how she’s still learning to appreciate life one day at a time. This conversation with Cat was filled with raw honesty, hard-won insights, and inspiration. Whether you’ve experienced trauma or are just looking for reminders to show up with love and grace each day, this episode will resonate. What We Talked About: Growing up with ODD and navigating a challenging childhood How unhealed trauma affects relationships and self-worth Cat’s journey through grief, faith, and finding her voice Parenting a child with ODD and breaking generational cycles The importance of affirmations, therapy, and daily self-love How faith—and “God winks”—helped Cat through life’s toughest moments Finding purpose and support through social media and community Quote from Cat: 💬 "The biggest mistake you can make is to stay quiet. Healing begins the moment you talk about it." And the God Winks… Throughout our conversation, Cat shared beautiful moments she calls “God winks”—little signs that she’s exactly where she’s meant to be. After moving into her new home, a stranger paid for her family’s first meal out. That seemingly small gesture was a powerful reminder to Cat that she was not alone and that God was always present, even through life’s hardships. These moments have helped Cat trust in the journey and appreciate the blessings, big and small, that come her way every day. It’s a powerful reminder to us all—sometimes, even when life feels heavy, God sends us little signs to remind us we’re exactly where we need to be. Doug Edmunds | Theatre Addiction

Recorded on 9/20/2020 Welcome to the Notable Peeps Podcast, where we chat with notable people about their proudest and most significant accomplishments in life, how they took on life challenges, and what they’ve done to find their path in life. Remember to choose your best and do the impossible! Doug and His Theatre Addiction While stationed in the Air Force from 1956 to 1959, he was stationed in the UK and would visit London on weekends. One of those weekends, he bought tickets to My Fair Lady with Julie Andrews. The year was 1958, and Doug wanted to meet Ms. Andrews. Through his network of friends, he found someone who was a neighbor of Julie's and was able to get Doug backstage. Doug's friend introduced him to Julie Andrews, and she signed his program. Today, he attends live theatre 23 times a month, and his favorite theatre is in Sandy. He is a season ticket holder at several theatres and is often there watching the latest productions. "I really recommend people go to the theatres - not the movie theatre - because there's nothing like live theatre." How He Met His Wife on a Double Decker Bus Going to His Girlfriend’s House “I was on the way to my girlfriend’s house, but she was prettier!” They started talking, and Doug soon found out she was from Finland. He followed her off the bus and ended up spending Boxing Day holiday weekend with her. They met on December 26th, and he proposed to her the following Valentine’s Day. They were married on June 13th, and they had four kids together. Local Utah Theatre The Hale Theatre in the valley is the theatre that Doug frequents the most. “I’ve taken over 19,000 pictures with actors. In 2006, David Weeks, a well-known theatre actor, gave Doug the title of ‘Super Fan.’ Doug attends theatre at all the local theatres in Utah, including Ogden, Sandy, and Salt Lake City. At the local community theatres, the actors aren’t paid for their work. “If you’re an equity player, then you are paid.” Each theatre is allowed two equity players, and many donate their payback to the theatre. The leads also are equity players, and touring companies are all equity players. Listen in as we talk about Broadway live streaming, what keeps Doug going, and why he is addicted to live theatre.
