    011. CHARITY - "We put others before ourselves"

Charity. We put others before ourselves. Simple to say. Extremely hard to live. In this final episode of the values miniseries I am talking about what charity actually looks like in a real home with real kids — and I am going to be honest about the places where it gets complicated. Like sharing. Because sharing is one of those topics where you find out really fast how differently moms see things. And I have thoughts. I talk about how I handle sharing with my twins, why I do not force my kids to hand over a toy mid-play, and what I actually say when one of them wants something the other has. It is not what you think. And it works in my house. I also want to talk to the mom who is depleted. The one who gives and gives and gives and is starting to wonder if anyone is ever going to pour back into her. I see you. And I want to give you permission to put down some of the plates you are spinning without feeling like you are failing your family. Charity is not doing everything perfectly. It is showing up and working heartily unto the Lord — not for man. Not to look good. Not to keep up. For the Lord. This one is warm. It is honest. And it is the last value. Which means next week we are moving into something new. If you want the full framework behind the rules and values I have been teaching in this series — the correction rhythm, the family script, the roadmap for your home — it is all inside The Obedient Home. https://stan.store/emilyjwaits/p/obedience-begins-at-home Thank you for walking through this miniseries with me. I am so glad you are here.

    010. HUMILITY - "We submit to God's will, not our own."

Humility. We submit to God's will and not our own. But here is the thing, before your children can submit to God's will they have to know him. Before they can trust him they have to have met him. And that starts with you opening your Bible with them every single day. In this episode I am talking about what humility actually looks like in a real home with real kids. We talk about scripture memory, catechism, family Bible time, and what it looks like to weave God's character into the ordinary rhythms of your day — even on the hard days when your husband has been working 70 hours a week for five months and you are doing it mostly alone. I also want to talk about balance. Because I see two ditches on this road and both of them are dangerous. The legalistic home that made Jesus all wrath and no grace. And the gentle parenting home that made Jesus all grace and no wrath. Neither one is the full picture. And your children need the full picture. We talk about how to teach your children the sovereignty of God in a way that builds trust not fear. How to memorize scripture with toddlers who cannot say the words clearly yet. And why submitting to God's will starts with the mom first. This one ran long. It always does when I love the topic. I hope you stay until the end. If you want the rules, values, and full framework I reference throughout this episode it is all inside The Obedient Home. https://stan.store/emilyjwaits/p/obedience-begins-at-home
