A conversation between two people who share something deeply in common and yet remain deeply divided, hosted by Sarah Shourd. First, we interview each guest separately and ask them about the events that formed their beliefs. Then we get them to talk to each other and hash things out.
Van Jones - Problems with the Left
A conversation with Van Jones about what he thinks the left still doesn’t understand. And reflections on a season of difficult conversations.
Joscha & Y-Vonne - Will Robots Be Racist?
A conversation between Harvard-nerd Joscha Bach and diversity-evangelist Y-Vonne Hutchinson on bias in tech and the future of humanity. Y-Vonne fears artificial intelligence will reflect the blind spots of the computer geniuses developing it. Joscha is one of those geniuses.
Tish & Mike - “We could all use a little warming”
A conversation between suburban-radical Tish O'Dell and Cajun-fisherman Mike Schaff about global warming and class. Both know what it is like for environmental destruction to threaten what they love the most, but only one thinks global warming is a “big deal.”
Peter & DeVone - Policing Ourselves
A conversation between cop-scholar Peter Moskos and urban-peacekeeper Devone Boggan on policing, race and “politically correct b******t.” Both have committed their lives to reducing urban gun violence, one by reforming policing and the other by caring for criminals.
Matt & Jackie – A Sibling Gender War
A conversation between scrappy writer Matt Sumell and his social justice warrior sister Jackie Sumell. They're two "curly-haired troublemakers" who grew up in a household that was torn apart by a gender war. Decades later, that war still dominates their relationship.
Introducing Of Two Minds
Our first episode premieres in early August. Get ready for some seriously amazing conversations!
The podcast we all need
Of Two Minds is an antidote to our feelings of blame, stagnation, and despair. Each episode begins with the necessary first step in having a productive conversation with someone we disagree with- listening. Through listening to the stories of each guest, we come to understand how their life experience shaped their views. With this foundation of empathy and respect, we can find common ground to move forward together. This is exactly what Van Jones is doing in his passionate work to solve some of our worst problems. Sarah's interview with him was revealing and inspirational... the perfect way to cap off the season!
Of Two Minds
I have loved all three of the podcasts. They are incredibly insightful and all so far have ended up with a very positive response from all three parties.
Of Two Minds
I enjoyed the first 2 episodes very much. The narrator does a great job of bringing out her guests perspectives and clarifying her own.
The country needs more conversations like these.
