NBA BUBBLE EDITION PT.4
In this Episode of NBA Bubble Edition Pt.4 brought in the homie Jesse on Zoom to talk about the NBA boycott and the players roles as activist in this movement for systemic change. This was a really stimulating conversation as we both shared our stories on where we were when the league stood still, why we think player activism matters, and why ultimately the players decided to stay in the bubble.
We also touched on the playoff first round matchups in the latter part of the episode.
NOTE: More Than A Vote----- CHANGE ISN’T MADE BY WATCHING FROM THE SIDELINES
We are Black athletes and artists working together. Our priority right now is combating systemic, racist voter suppression by educating, energizing, and protecting our community in 2020. Please read our letter asking fans to join us in the fight against Black voter suppression.
Learning about The Bail Project with Anthony Body
In this Off Menu Podcast episode we talk to Anthony Body of The Bail Project. He is a Bail Disruptor from Cleveland, Ohio and helps in securing bail for individuals in pre-trial detention who cannot afford it. The conversation was really inspiring and thought provoking as Mr. Body pointed out the many frailties of our criminal justice system. Some of the topics include how the cash bail system feeds on the poor as well as how Mr. Body was able to maneuver through the justice system himself. Hope you all learn something!
NOTE: We know that this podcast has morphed into a NBA podcast but we're not talking about hoops this week. This week was about The Bail Project and learning about the issues within the cash bail system in America. Sometimes hoop talk can wait.
NBA BUBBLE EDITION PT 3.
In this Episode of NBA Bubble Edition Pt. 3, brought the man Codie back through the Zoom for back to back episodes. This episode was very wide ranging and included Why Giannis head butted another man to James Harden affinity with strippers. Also touched on the underrated CJ McCollum and why Codie says the Trailblazers are his new favorite team.
Note: Support Black Colleges is a clothing line who's sole mission is to uplift, inspire & encourage others to Support HBCU’s. SBC was founded in 2012 by two Howard University students who saw a need to spread awareness about the school that changed their lives. The brand took off fast when celebrities such as Teyanna Taylor, Missy Elliot, Chris Paul, Eva Marcille and many more have been spotted rocking the brand. Each year the SBC team employs over 70 college ambassadors & gives thousands of dollars in scholarships.
NBA BUBBLE EDITION PT 2.
In this Episode of NBA Bubble Edition Pt. 2, I talked to the homie Codie about what we have seen this far in the NBA restart and if we think its ultimately going to be successful. We also talked about Devin Booker being a Goat, TJ Warren showing why he should not have been traded for cash considerations, and if Lou Williams really only got chicken wings from Magic City. Hope you guys enjoy the pod!
Note: The Bail Project is an organization that we are continuing to highlight as a group that not just talking about change but actively pursuing it. Their mission is to combat mass incarceration by disrupting the money bail system ‒ one person at a time. They are fighting for those who are locked behind bars and who can not effectively secure bail to be released from jail.
NBA BUBBLE EDITION
NBA IS BACK!! NBA season is tipping back off July 30th and as the season resumes, the podcast is coming back to continue the hoop convo. Episode Release: Every Thursday
NOTE: Even as the NBA season comes back and our excitement for the league takes off we will not lose focus on what truly matters. Off Menu is a podcast that wants to always amplify black voices. We have and will continue to have genuine conversations about what is happening in the world and what we want to see changed. This podcast will continue to speak openly about the systematic oppression of black people and the our continuous fight for equality. Our goal is to continue to help push, elevate, and encourage black voices which have historically rarely been listened to or fully understood. As a brand started by two Black kids, we want to use this platform to promote organizations who are doing real work in the fight for change and equal opportunity in our country. Our first organization that we are going to support and promote is the Bail Project: “The Bail Project, Inc. is a non-profit organization designed to combat mass incarceration by disrupting the money bail system ‒ one person at a time.
We believe that paying bail for someone in need is an act of resistance against a system that criminalizes race and poverty and an act of solidarity with local communities and movements for decarceration. Over the next five years, The Bail Project will open dozens of sites in high-need jurisdictions with the goal of paying bail for tens of thousands of low-income Americans, all while collecting stories and data that prove money bail is not necessary to ensure people return to court. We won’t stop until meaningful change is achieved, and the presumption of innocence is no longer for sale.”
Rest in Power to all of our black sisters and brothers who have died in the struggle for freedom. Also, arrest the murderers who took the life of our sister Breonna Taylor.
